The goat campaign!

I get hay for free, for my 4 I buy 2 bags of grain a month and go through 2-3 bales of hay.

I have no vegatation, but goat prefer brush to grass...

I spend around $32 a month on goat feed and $15 a month on hay. I have 3 mini-fainters in a fenced area that measures 100' x 40'. But, mine are spoiled....I really could get by with less feed.

Do you have any grown up areas that need cleared? That would be a good argument in favor.
If you have plenty of good browse they will not consume much store bought feed per goat.

I have two large goats (150 pounds plus) and 1 baby goat on 1 acre. My acre supports them pretty well even in winter even though I cleared most of my brush. If I had not cleared my grown up area 10 goats could not knock a dent in it.

It really depends on what you do with your goats. If you are breeding, they will need grain, etc. If they are just pets, you can give them grain as a treat, but they don't need a lot. Especially if you have whethers or bucks, they should not have grain, maybe some as babies but then no more. It is not good for their urinary tract. Mine eat first cutting grass hay and have occasional treats of grain, vanilla wafers, carrots, etc. Be careful with whethers, do not feed them 2 or 3 cutting alfalfa hay, it is too rich and will cause urinary calculi (sp?) and will kill them. Same with the grain. Mine get apple cider vinegar in their water to help with that. They all get free choice loose minerals & baking soda.
