The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

BTW - 35 out of 40 eggs packed in the plastic eggs survived this trip, but they were not double boxed and the plastic eggs were not taped shut. I have improved my packing since then.

That is amazing! I would expect to see egg goo coming out of a box like that!

I posted a picture of a similar packing job from earlier this year. They came from Arkansas to CA--set in an egg carton and packed in tissue paper.

Packing like that makes me sad for the poor chicks that will not hatch because of poor packing. Sadly, the Post Office is usually blamed instead of bad packing. Personal responsibility is lost sometimes.
They should refund you your money packing like that. Please refer them to this thread

I assume that the plastic eggs are the really large ones? Or are you shipping bantam eggs? Also, when you said "survived" that train wreck, did you mean unbroken or that they were viable and hatched? I am fascinated by this method. I may have to try it myself. Bravo!

I tried but the person was very resistant to the idea that the packing method was poor. No, I did not get a refund. I was supposed to get a replacement shipment packed a different way--in foam but that has not happened.

Sadly the person is losing out on sales. I am very good at recommending Breeders that ship well.

Quote: I showed this photo to my local postmistress and she showed it to her supervisor. I'm not sure how much farther up the line it went, though, but they were both livid about it.

Yes, they are the large size commonly available at Easter time.

35 of them arrived uncracked. I believe 6 of them made it to lockdown, but I can't remember how many hatched.

I received a box like that - well much larger but in the same condition. It was oozing stank and I hurled as I carried it home from the post office.

Sadly it was from Frank Reece of Good Sheppard Poultry and contained 24 heritage barred rock and 24 Jersey Giants. What makes it sadder was I had booked to ship a month later and he shipped incorrectly. I received promises to reship. Next due date their was a blizzard in Kansas. Frank did not ship. Since then he simply stopped returning my emails. I send one a month with no response.

This really set back my getting the flock out of here project.
