Congrats on the babies!

You can just leave it. It will dry up and fall off in due time. Once it is all dried, you can break it off a little away from its body if it doesn't fall off by itself, but no need to open the bator just to do that.

I would give them a drop of poly vi Sol without iron(baby vitamin) twice a day too.

I probably got my Lav Orps from the same supplier. I got 5 out of 12 and I was ecstatic. I am not trying to sell the west coast to you (mind you it is Gods country LOL). Do whatever works. I have 72 eggs coming from Papa B this Wednesday.

When you have your Jersey Giants and Australorps up and running, let me know - I will buy from you.

When I get clears or crappy shipping I always tell the seller. I expect a refund if they are crappily shipped and normally get replacements if they are clears. Most sellers want you to succeed and will meet you half way atleastTha

Thanks, Oz... but right now, my Black Australorps are just getting going... none of the eggs are over 40 grams yet, and they're covered by a RIR roo at the moment. I have a Black Australorp roo coming online in about 3-4 weeks, and he will be put with the Black Australorp hens. My White Jersey Giants are up in the air right now... hoping within the next couple of weeks, they'll be laying, but they are slower to mature, and they're the same age as the RIRs & Australorps, so who knows when? The roo I have planned for them is only 6 weeks old, though. So, when I DO get purebreds (and guaranteed that they are purebreds, since the 2 roos I have that are anywhere near enough to be able to fertilize them, need to be separated from them for at least 30 days), I will let you know.

Thanks, ron! I kinda figured that, since some of the eggs that I have received weighed at least 45 grams, and they hatched. But we're still working out the kinks! LOL! By the time we get to 45, my Australorp roo should be good to go, I'm figuring, so... with that in mind, that's the plan.

I'm super-excited right now... one of my RIR hens is trying to go broody already, and so I've been having to take her eggs away from her, and scoot her outside to be with the rest of the flock. So, on a whim, I took one of her eggs, along with another RIR hen's who laid a beautiful egg the day before, and put them in my incubator. Figured, why not, maybe she knows something I don't? LOL! I have other eggs in there, so WTH... let's try and see if they're fertile eggs, and see if King, my RIR roo, is doing his job (as my DH says "prize-f***ing rooster"... long story of a joke he told me)... seems every time King sees me, he's gotta show me he's doing his job.

Anyways, it's been only 5 days, and there's veining in both eggs! Now, these are only 35 & 38 gram eggs, so I really don't expect a whole lot, if anything, from them, but it sure is nice to see that King is capable!
