The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

Yes, and they made it in 2 days, shipped Priority, while 2 adult Ameraucanas shipped from Delta, CO the same day by Express mail still have not been scanned or located anywhere since Monday night ... :hit   Saved and waited for these for months.  They are almost certainly dead.

So sorry! There is still a chance they're okay. Hopefully they will show up today.

What is USPS policy on Express shipping of live birds? I know Priority shipments do not guarantee delivery date, but Express Mail delivery dates are Guaranteed.

That seems to be the question of the week. The Postmaster at the departure PO told the shipper he received a directive from HQ minutes after my birds had left saying they would not guarantee next-day delivery of live animals, that guarantee would be 3 day. It was too late to stop the shipment, it had already left. I don't know if this is just for that PO or for all of them, I asked about it at my local PO and they didn't know anything about it. My question would be, why would anyone ship any live animal/bird under those circumstances? I won't. Why would you intentionally pay for Express and receive Priority service?

I have now been on hold with the PO for an hour and 7 minutes trying to get information on my Domestic Research Case - I still don't have my birds, and have about lost hope they might still arrive alive, or at all. Customer Service at the ASK-USPS number can't seem to transfer my call correctly, so I've twice been transferred wrong, each time the wait is 20 minutes, and it has added up. I am completely disgusted with the USPS.

I can tell you why I have and do. Express is guaranteed delivery date, whether it be 2 or 3 days. Priority is Not! I have had Priority take 8 to 10 days. It is unusual but does happen and there is no guarantee on delivery time with Priority. So if you are getting a time sensitive shipment Priority, such as eggs or chicks and it takes 10 days to get to you then you are just out of luck.

That is what you have to do if you ship chicks. USPS will not Guarantee overnight delivery. If they are packed right and with fore thought of the trip they will be fine for 2 or 3 day delivery. Of course that is my opinion!

This is why hatcheries ship day old chicks.

They dont need food or water for 48-72 hours.

A little gro-gel in the box can be the bird's life blood.

In the Philippines I ship birds as freight - airport to airport. Its about 10 bucks a bird box.

Because of the use of game birds for that horrible "sport", birds are on planes all the time - there were 40 boxes of roosters on my last flight to Manila from Bacolod.

Somebody give me your estimates of the shipping weight of 12 - 16 eggs, bubble wrapped and double boxed (packed like we have been talking about.) I should have written down my package weights when I shipped, but I didn't.

$15.80 is what my two boxes cost. I shipped 13 and 14 eggs. The box needs to be less than 20 pounds and use click and ship online.

If they are close, Regional B would be about $9.00 dollars.

Hi all! I have sort of been lurking on this thread and just reading and trying to catch up when I can. I am having eggs shipped to be from 3 different BYC'ers, 3 different states next week for the Easter Hatch-a-long. Now - what I'm wondering is - how do I figure out how to have them shipped?? Express or Priority? One of the seller's lives in the same state as me - although on the opposite side. Her's I am not so concerned about. The other two are further away. Is there a place on USPS website that I can go to input my zip and the shipper's zip and see ship times??
