OMG... I am insanely jealous.
I always crack them open to see for sure what is going in before I toss them. Some eggs are dark because of the bloom. If they do not stink I keep those in to see what happens.I candled my first eggs last night day 7. And one I could see was nearly completely black. We through it out. There was two that I might have seen a vein in and the rest I could not see anything in. But left them in the bator anyways. Being light blue and green eggs I hope some of them hatch!![]()
I could see into a little space on it, but the rest of it was totally black. I did not want to crack it open. I can't.I always crack them open to see for sure what is going in before I toss them.

Sometimes they surprise you and hatch! That is always a bonus.I could see into a little space on it, but the rest of it was totally black. I did not want to crack it open. I can't. Thank you Ron! I will not through out any more dark eggs unless they stink!![]()
Okay, i said i would never try shipped eggs again since my last hatch was a bust. 22 and nothing hatched. i was so disappointed because I really wanted the SFH and BBS Ameraucana to add to my flock .So someone mentioned on one of the forums that SFH eggs were up for auction on the Crazy 24 hour auction so I had to look and I did and I bid on them and when I was outbid and I tried to bid again, I accidently bid on 30 Speckled Sussex eggs offered by the same seller. (My Bad) Anywho, I won 30 Speckled Sussex this afternoon and I just received notice they are are on their way.
I just hope the heat does not fry them
....it is unbearable on the east coast right now. I heard that the seller has a good rep. This time, I am writing down all instructions to follow so no mistakes are made. I really think the failure last time was someone opened up the incubator during the lockdown and did not close it properly. (no proof but we did exactly as our first which yielded us 8 out of 12 Rhodebar) So my question after all this is - Who has hatched Speckled Sussex and is there anything special I should know or do? Where are the best pictures of candling of eggs that we can use to compare and can determine things are going along as expected?![]()
