The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

Atxchick - I would look into that insurance that some say comes automatically with eggs (or is it with Priority?) They are likely not viable even if they arrive intact. You are not responsible for what the PO does to the eggs, but I would ship them again if the PO was willing to pay for them.

There is $50 worth of insurance on the package. I have heard that eggs are viable for about 10 days then it drops significantly. Today is day 10 for some of the eggs. I just wanted someone else's opinion since I've never had this problem. I definitely want to make it right since I have been on the receiving end of a batch of eggs where nothing developed (they were delivered on time though). I'm shipping from TX to SC. Since usps states to contact them 5 days from date of shipping on priority should I call Tuesday and if they do pay on the insurance who gets that money?

Also, did you label your package? The breeder that sent mine put in very big bright letters "LIVE EMBRYOS" all over the box. I think that is one reason mine made such a long journey and were here the beginning of the third day.

Some think that putting live embryos on the box will make some evil people mis treat the box.

Many stick with Fragile.

If the tracking number does not show information, then the package is still with Airborne Express.

Most of the process is automated so it really does not make much difference what is written on the box.

Lost packages are the fault of USPS, not the shipper.

There is not much you can do.

Although its late, the best advice is to ship on Monday or Tuesday. Thursday is a real crap shoot.
I always ship on Saturday except if Monday is a holiday eggs seem to arrive everywhere on Mondays Thursday is the worst day to ship . Saturday followed by Monday then Tuesday in my opinion

This is exactly why I have eggs shipped to me USPS Express. Cost is more but delivery time is guaranteed. This kind of thing happens fairly often with Priority. It happened to me twice last year.
