The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

He has been kicked off e-bay already otherwise I would have told everyone his name. Lucky for every ones sake he did get banned from ever selling through them again. Brenda and her face book group kept at e-bay about him. And even by the sound of it sent them a video clip of the news report. The man wont be selling any time soon. Plus he is still behind bars, I guess he didn't have the bail to get out.

that is horrible!!! i couldnt even imagine on both ends of it, knowing what he was doing and then getting the duds.

i got eggs in the mail yesterday morning. My dad picked them up at the post and when I got out of work he brought it over to my house. the one side of the box was smashed, so we had very little hopes for what was inside, but it looked like every one of the eggs survived. 2 were wet and sticky, but i candled and didnt see any cracks, so they went in. One of them looked like it was scrambled already, everything inside was just sloshing around.. but it went in anyway. i will recheck that one, but i know from last time i will be throwing it.

My dad is retired from the post office and he was furious. he said he would not put anything about eggs on the outside, just a fragile, this end up, on it. He thinks they are purposely rough with these boxes.

At any rate, 41 eggs set! 33 BLRW , 4 silkie and 4..of something, i dont know which girl is laying but i wanted to see what they were!(and to just fill the bator!)

Why were they wet and sticky? Are you sure there was not an egg that broke on them? There are a lot of opinions on whether or not to wash dirty eggs that are bound for the incubator, but I encourage you to research it and consider washing/treating those eggs for the protection of the others.

Your Dad's reaction and opinion serves to reinforce my policy on packages. I take it a step further and don't even mark boxes as fragile unless the recipient insists. I think the marking does little to increase the care that is used and sometimes causes the packages to get some extra 'unwanted attention.' I prefer the box to travel through the system, attracting no attention. The majority of postal workers are professional and efficient, the small percentage that are idiots hurt the public opinion of the entire service (not unlike the police.)

they were each "sealed" in bubble wrap and taped close, so I know that they were from themselves. I carefully candled them for cracks to seal up. we cleaned them off too, but not washed. I marked those 2 and will keep a close eye on them, i almost didnt put them in, but the one had a perfect aircell.

i dont know if the person i got my eggs from is a member here or not, but I just want to say that the eggs were packed so nice and secure that it gave us some hope. the ones I ordered last year were packed well, but they were bubble wrapped and in shredded paper and kind of "floating in the box. I have no doubt that some of those eggs would not have made it. She gets 2 thumbs up from me for her packaging!

They are sprayed with cake dye. And yes the color stays on the down until their feathers come in.

hm. we were thinking how to tell my chicks aprat from the ones we bought...(if and when they hatch) my dad wanted me to use different color bingo dobbers... but those are so cute and I cant see myself bonking all the babies on the tops of the head! (plus I dont know how safe that would actually be...) but cake dye is edible.. so!!

Does anyone know the best way to cut strips of little air bubbles off the roll? Scissors are a pain. There's got to be an easier way.

Box cutter maybe??? Normally I don't cut them off like that. However I had to laugh when my giant roll came and the kids went and started popping bubbles. I told them no way were they popping all of them, I need them to protect the eggs. I believe come Christmas I will buy the kids each a roll and that will get wrapped up and placed under the tree. Should keep them busy for a month or 2.
