The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

No, I haven't been double boxing. I cannot get 12+ eggs properly packed and upright in a #4 priority box (especially considering it's not unusual for me to pack 15-18 eggs or even more for a 1 dozen order).

However, I noticed the other day at the USPS store that the medium flat rate box is a little smaller than the #7, so I ordered a bundle and got them a couple days ago. I checked it out and they will fit inside the #7, so I'm going to try doubling boxing that way.

I just ordered a ton of different sized ones. I figure I will do a trial with some of them. I even got the shoebox size. I am wondering if 2 of those will fit in the large flat rate priority box????

Remember that package i packed in heavy foam (old couch cushion).. just got news 11 of the 13 eggs hatched.

I thought about using cushions. we have neighbors all the time leaving couches and chairs out at the curb. Who knows it might be a great way to recycle.

I am going to put some extra shavings in my package that is going out Monday. Just to be on the safe side. I will check later and see if I can double box it. Usually I can't fit the medium inside the large. But will do a double check on it.

I normally do that to the day before everything is going to go out, then the morning before I get ready to ship everything it's filling boxes full of bubble wrap and wrapped eggs, then more bubble wrap and crumpled paper. Then everything gets sealed up and I put 1 dz or 2dz on the top so I know which ones are going where. Then about 30 minutes before I head to the post office I start printing out labels and get those on the boxes. Then its fun at the post office, the lady usually comes on out and helps me take them all in.

I have to keep them sorted as I get them every day. That way I know exactly how many I have of each breed and I know how old the eggs are.

Also, by keeping them in the cartons, I turn each carton end up the opposite direction each day so they don't sit on one end all the time.

awesome. i will have to try that trick next year. Mine go so fast that I don't have enough to do that with. Well maybe with the NN eggs I can do that. I only use them in my incubator when I can place 5 to a time, or I give them to Brenda. This coming weeks is all going to the school for my daughters class.
