Well, some folks may get jaded about gathering eggs, but not me. Every single day, every single egg, makes me smile. I know who lays 'em, for the most part (so far). I thank the ladies for their gifts - if not the one who laid this or that egg, then the closest hen at the time. I love the little buk-buk replies. The girls who aren't laying yet do seem to follow me around to see what I'm up to, and I'll encourage them to lay their eggs "here" (in a nest box as I gather eggs). That reply is usually a "Birk?"
Ever since one of the hens actually hatched an egg - my very first GrandChick! - and I've now started incubating/hatching shipped eggs to add new breeds to my flock, I am even more in awe of each egg. Although I either eat or sell my girls' eggs, they're still miracles, each and every one of them.
