Thank you all for your kind words and congratulations!
I thought (stupidly) that getting the first egg might make me not be such an obsessed freak about it, but now, it seems, I am more obsessed than ever!
Does the awesomeness ever wear off? (personally, I hope not. I don't ever want to come down from this high!)

Thanks again!
Bright Blessings

Well, some folks may get jaded about gathering eggs, but not me. Every single day, every single egg, makes me smile. I know who lays 'em, for the most part (so far). I thank the ladies for their gifts - if not the one who laid this or that egg, then the closest hen at the time. I love the little buk-buk replies. The girls who aren't laying yet do seem to follow me around to see what I'm up to, and I'll encourage them to lay their eggs "here" (in a nest box as I gather eggs). That reply is usually a "Birk?"

Ever since one of the hens actually hatched an egg - my very first GrandChick! - and I've now started incubating/hatching shipped eggs to add new breeds to my flock, I am even more in awe of each egg. Although I either eat or sell my girls' eggs, they're still miracles, each and every one of them.

Pretty mushy sounding, huh?

Nope, in fact it gets worse. Pretty soon you'll be doing this.

Not at all. I do very much the same thing. I enjoy opening the door to the coop and getting that first glimpse of the presents. I am usually joined in the coop by half the flock, some of the younger ones go and look in the nest or in my basket (yes, I have a sappy gathering basket). You can practically read their little minds. I haven't been able to figure out who laid what. Hubby is better at that than I am. I am also disappointed when there is nothing in the nests yet. I hope I never get tired of it.

Congrats on your first egg! And here's to many, many more to come.

Oh Happy Chooks, that is fantastic! I do hope to learn to "multiply" that way, one day.
But for now, I am pretty delighted to be able to do it like this:
