I love the coop! I completely regretted not making mine large enough to walk inside of as you did. If I ever get around to building another I will do it similar to yours. Oh, and the tighter hardware cloth on the lower portion was a good idea. here in NC, we have had dog attacks, hawks trying to grab a meal, racoons and opossums attacking the birds!

We have hawks, owls, raccoons and coyotes to worry about here. During the day, when we're not home, the dog is outside to watch the yard.

The only other thing I need to worry about is Black Widows and Scorpions. Lots of those around this neighborhood. Hopefully they don't affect chickens because it's a guarantee that there will be both in the coop and run.
 
Pretty much done. I need to tie together the layers of hardware cloth, but that's it.
I'm so stoked about this project. It's been fun. My chicks are 3 weeks old now. I will probably move them out here in a week or 2 max.

I do not know the height of your coop from the ground, but you might find the hens trying to lay eggs under there. Might want to decide if you want them under there or not. I am not trying to criticize your job. I think you have done an awesome job with it! just pointing out a potential problem that might arise in the future.

Well, we shall see. It is high enough for them to scratch under there. I decided to do that to take full advantage of the square footage I had available.
 
Nice coop! Once they start laying, you can confine them to the coop until they figure out where you want them to lay.
 
You can also use those plastic eggs you get for Easter and put them in the nests. Just superglue them so they don't pop open. Works like a champ.
 
Block around the outside and a daytime roost.








I think I'll move the chicks out here next weekend. They'll be 4 weeks and daytime temps will be in the 70's. Maybe, we'll see.
