The Green Dragon Roost

So, what does it take to get the chickens to coop up at night? Any tricks? I had to send my daughter on a belly crawl under the coop to fetch 6 of them tonight. They are almost 5 weeks right now.
I agree with patience and what I did was to have a light on in the coop before dusk. Mine all sounded like 2 year old kids not wanting to go to bed. I picked up everyone and put them in the coop every night. They got better every night and within 2 weeks they put themselves to bed. My little ones now only took 3 days to figure out to go in the coop. They will get it but good thing you have someone who can retrieve them for you.

Thanks!
Hmmm, no I only had them locked in one day and that was because of low temps and cold wind. Right now, I have a light bulb on in the coop for a little heat and hopefully a beacon to coop up. Tonight was only the second night we tried to let them do it on their own.

If you lock them in the coop for a few days they know its the place and will go right in when the sun goes down :)

Nice work, you've got some skills to say the least. Cabinet maker by chance?

The scorpions and spiders should fear your girls, don't know if they are bad for a chicken to eat. Any bug within pecking range of our girls meets their doom quickly. I'm sure some of the Az. people can provide info.

We've only had chickens one year but it's an adventure, bol.

Jack of All, Master of None.
I had a lot of experience rebuilding my house some years ago.

I may have to try it, but now that they are having so much fun running around, it will seem mean.

Yep lockdown for 2-3 days with their food and water does it everytime. Might seem a little mean but you will b so happy that first night when all u have to do is shut the door! Sure you're daughter will too! Lol.
Awesome job on the coop!

I guess we're gonna give that a try.

Thanks for all the compliments! It was fun to build.

Well, I didn't have the heart to shut them in after their taste of freedom.
The last 2 nights, they've all cooped up on their own. Pretty cool!
