The gross truth about ducks...

Since my ducklilngs were a day old, they would crouch down, back themselves up, lift the tail, and SQUISH! Out it comes. It sounds so gross... and my students are always so grossed out by it. It led to a grand conversation about how every living thing has to poo. Of course one my lowest students...(her IQ is in the teens and 20s) was very adament to tell me that she did not poo. That it was too gross, and girls just dont poo. She was dead serious...I said well some of the ducks are girls and they still poo...she looked at me and said, yeah but ducks are gross! I couldnt find a reasonable answer to argue with her.

All I have to say to that is...

Mojo Chick'n :

If you have cows (or horses or any other animal that poos) the ducks will make a beeline for a fresh pile to stick their bills in as deep as possible and squiggle it around until they find some grain that didn't get digested - they will leave their own food dish and race each other to be the first one to it.

I don't have goats, but we had them as kids - actually the goat and donkey or horse poo is much more firm - not nearly as disgustig as watching them dive into a fresh cow patty.

I see... I suppose the chickens will think of it as their own 'gifts from above' as well then, huh?
Joy of joys.

Yeah, the chickens go for the poo, too - they just don't stick their whole face into it like the ducks do.

I definately will NOT tell my husband about this thread! He's still wondering WHY I want to get ducks; I am getting them this spring.
