The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Go get normal brooding equipment and brood them in the house.

I do not think rats got them. I had rats in my garage last year and they did not bother the chicks.

I use premier and brinsea heat plates in a plastic tub at first. They go out to the garage later.

Sorry for your babies.

I also brood indoors for a minimum of one week in warm weather, and won't hatch or brood if a power outage would lead to rapid death. I use an old fashioned quartz bulb or ceramic emitter. I've not lost any due to chill this way.

Oh Amy, I'm so sorry. Hope the 2 little ones make it.

I also like to brood in the house with a Brinsea plate for the first 3-4 weeks. I want to make sure they are eating and gaining weight, not getting pasty butt, able to run in and out of the brooder plate as needed and not falling asleep away from the heat source.

They've been in the incubator for 6 hours now--I think it's safe to say that they are really most sincerely dead.

:hit :hugs

I am so sorry!!!

What one is left?

'Tis one of the Sulmtalers, the one from under Frieda. I can tell 'cause that's the one with the orange back (first to hatch had dark fuzz on the wing edges, and the overnight hatcher had a black spot on its head--that's the one that disappeared).

Thank you, everyone. My daughters took it better than I had feared.

Sorry it happened, but glad they didn't take it as hard as you thought they would...

So you noticed a lighter downed chick and an orangey/goldish tinted down too? I really want to see what gender it turns out as... I have a theory they might be sexable that way, but only noticed it lately... hatch before last I had 2 hatch, one very light/whitish silver tint and one orangish/goldish tint... I didn't band them (wish I had) but 1 turned out to be a boy and 1 a girl... wonder if it's a fluke or not...
