The Health Care Law.

I watched Obama's speech and as many of you know, I like the guy... but I don't get the "happy dance" comment. I thought he kept his speech highly unpolitical. Just like the republicans said they would act if it was overturned.. no "spiking the football." I guess maybe Royd if you could point out specific comments of his that you felt were gloating that might help me better understand. I think this will be one of those things that is unpopular at first but people will eventually learn to appreciate it.
You mean I'll learn to appreciate it, like I'll eventually learn to appreciate Social Security? That system is bankrupt, being used for every entitlement imaginable, money stolen and doled out by corrupt politicians, and in 7 years, all I'm going to get is a big shoulder shrug, some upturned palms and a "My Bad," from the government.

Thanks to Obamacare, the business my great grandmother started back in the depression, will be forced out of business in the next couple of years. We simply cannot survive it. As a direct result of the increased taxes, added fees for employers, the the 2500 dollar cap on FSA assistance for families with special needs children, my ENTIRE family will be out of a job. And our more than 350 employees will be filing for unemployment. And that is just with one company, in one city, in one state.

We have become a nation that invests in it's past and disfavors it's future.

I no longer feel anticipation or hope when I look at my future. I feel a crushing weariness, knowing that my cost of living is about to skyrocket, and that my job will be non-existent in coming years.

Obamacare was the worst idea. America knew that. That's why we voted against it. Who does congress think they are to go directly against what the American people want?

When you say they "found a way to make it legal/constitutional" What do you mean ?

The question is, is the penalty a tax and can congress make you pay a tax. It's long been held that congress can tax (it's in the constitution). So the only question is, is it a tax.
Legally it is a tax so my question is, why was the vote not 9 to 0 instead of 5 to 4

But the meme during the runup was that it was not a tax. How can we trust a government that changes the rules in the middle of the game, without consulting the players.

No they started saying the Constitution says this but we are making an exemption for this that or another reason. That is not there job. There is a way to amend the Constitution, them doing it on there own is not the way...

Cases..

The drug dog eximption to the 4th

The short shotgun eximption to the 2nd

The DUI checkpoint to the 4th

An on an on...

And I agree with all three cases.
Don't you think they fall under the general welfare ?

let me get this strait... Shall not infringe is null an void because of general welfare an the Constitution ban on both checkpoints an warrentless searches is also null an void because of general welfare?

What does not fall under general welfare then? Why even have a Constitution?

I think you're mistaking a searches with unreasonable searches or do you see no difference ?

I'm a nurse and in school to be a nurse practitioner. I see a lot of the good and bad of the healthcare system, and believe me I've seen enough freeloaders who throw away their health and then get outrageously expensive care on the taxpayers' dime to build up a bit of ire. For all those who don't want to be forced to buy health insurance, who is going to cover you when you need care? All of us get old, all of us will need care. It will usually be much more expensive when we're elderly. Anyway, I get what you're all saying, you value your freedom, there are lots of people wasting lots of money in our system.
BUT. This country's system completely allows even responsible adults, young or old, to be left entirely screwed. Last fall, for a comparative health policy class, we read a book on health care in America compared with various other countries. It detailed the story of a young woman who developed lupus, then lost her job due to the condition and the excessive use of sick days, then of course lost her insurance because it had been through her employer, then couldn't get more insurance due to that pre-existing condition and her lack of income. She ended up dying within a few years, due to complications that could have been prevented had she been able to afford regular care. She wasn't stupid, or lazy, or coddled. She was unlucky in a system that rewards the lucky.
Yes, if you are actively dying you can get treatment at a hospital. But by the time you get to that point, it's often too late. There are many stories of abuse of the system, but there are others like that young woman who didn't deserve to die in the way she did. Just had to add in a different point of view. It's a complex issue that doesn't work well when reduced to blanket statements.
What's wrong with health savings plans? It requires personal responsibility, the government can't touch it, and if you happen to stay healthy until your dying day, it's your money....The fact is, the govt. doesn't like that concept, because they can't control your life and it removes a huge chunk of money for more vote buying schemes....SS would be solvent today, had politicians actually put it in a "Lockbox" or developed individual accounts and allowed the market to work the money. Heck, buy treasury bonds or municipal bonds with it.Sadly, one of the demographics, which the Democrats love to pander to, the black community, ends up getting ripped off the most by SS, simply because retired men die much closer to retirement age.Once a person dies, that money belongs to the govt. How is that doing the right thing....and if I'm correct, I heard "doing the right thing" several times in Obama's speech, the other day.

As for the luck of the draw thing, where do we stop? Obama's eating Kobe Beef and I'm eating canned mackerel. What's fair about that. I'm sure I worked harder today, than he has in the last month.
Homeless people need homes, hungry people need food, lazy people need rest, fat people need electric scooters...I could go on, but you get the point.
