The Health Care Law.

Casper, If all of your employees are only making minimum wage you would need to lay off a few more, but I think the best bet in that situation is to cut their minimum wage hours to part time work. I will take a guess that those on minimum wage are not going to be mad if they can only work 30-35 hours a week, instead of 40-60.
They probably aren't able to survive on either anyway, especially not if they have a family. If they are teens or young adults, they will probably love you for cutting their time.

I find a bit of a dichotomy here.....You are happy to be covered by a govt. program that potentially will force someone onto the street, because a business has to meet a quota or be fined. Isn't that the same thing that Romney is accused of?...Downsizing to make things functional.

I have told you over and over again my first choice regarding the health care issue, but I'm also not terribly concerned about it either. There are other issues that bother me more.

Downsizing and streamlining is sometimes a necessary part of business. Surely the health care reform will have some negative results, so why try to hide from them? I am just being honest with Casper about how the situation can be handled, what I would do.

I find it sad that you don't value your dignity and constitutional rights a little better than that.

The people who are paying you are the tax payers. You owe tax payers the description of your role, bodily fluids, and full medical records. The people who are writing the check only took the money from the tax payers.
I think you mis understood me I have no problem peeing in a cup for anyone and my medical records are free to whoever wants them.

I am not a federal employee BTW I am a civilian contractor who does public works projects.

Had this law been floated in better economic times it may have gotten more support. It is poorly devised but with some good intentions.

There needs to be limits on what is covered and I think limits on non-emergency visits which were not addressed in the bill. In fact of what I have read so far there was a lot of pork in the bill that has very little to do with health care. (still reading it).

I find what has been passed is a typical bill in Washington handed to the states to sort out how to implement it and fund it so it can be taxed... a progressive tax to boot. The fact that it has a tax associated with it should be enough for any working person to cringe.

I would support a bill that adressed fraud within the system, over billing practices, rationed non emergency visits and equal, available coverage based on what you want. Treat it like your cable tv bill pay for the channels you want in other words a custom plan and then your agent tells you the real cost and go from there.

I will give you an example; a smoker who smoked all thier life and then gets emphysema, they should pay more, a person who lives a high risk lifestyle they should pay more. A simple chart showing your profession, habits and such and a cost beside that item then add up your wants and pay for them. Those that are freeloaders need to be held accountable financially and maybe do community service to pay for thier refusal to buy insurance.

In turn reward those that take care of thier health with lower rates and more liberal service. Rewarding sloth has got to end in this country or it will grow and fester like a boil until it explodes.

What is the estimated cost? somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.1 trillion between 2012 and 2021 now how much can we spend of that amount on educating and enforcement of existing programs?

There has to be a better solution out there.

Stephanie, will you have to provide health care for your employees in your business?
I worry that this is going to KILL small business owners..

I've got to disagree.Everything about this bill was and is underhanded in one way or another, from its contents to its size to the shenanegans they went through to get it passed.
I would bet that if a honest survey was taken, very few of the people who passed this thing have bothered to crack the cover on it, let alone an in depth review. All they knew and cared about was that it would put the American people into bondage to the power of govt..

I guess if you have more than 50 full time employees and cannot afford insurance, you would have to lay people off.

You can either lay off two employees making about $30,000 a year, or one at $60,000 and you should be able to cover 1/2 the health care bill. I think that is all that would be required (pay 1/2) Or just switch employees to part time, enough employees to bring you down to the minimum of 50 full time which is when the law sets in. Good luck!
This amazes me. So they should lay off people or cut more peoples hours. And part time people count as part of the 50. Oh but then the company cant fill the orders on time losing business maybe even closing down. I'm shocked you didn't tell them to move some production to China. I'm sure there are more companies in the same boat.
The law takes away free choice and jobs. Man whats not to like about it ?

Oh goodness no, not for a long time, if ever. Its just me and one other person that works via 1099 contract work, so he really isn't an "employee." I am pretty sure a business would have to employ 50 full time employees before this law affects them. Just my guess, but if a business has that number of staff, they are probably either already providing benefits or are capable of budgeting to make it work without causing too much disruption.

Are you sure about that? It is my understanding the health care laws only affect full time employees. People need to adjust with change. Anyway, if people are laid off, can't they claim unemployment?
