The Hen Hut Flock! - 2019

Hello! This is just a little thread for my flock's growth/life! I have six ladies: three Barred Rocks and three Cuckoo Marans! Their names are Dot, Stripes, Chicken (yes, Chicken the chicken), Waffles, Roxy, and Peep. I will be getting an EE cockerel and a pullet this weekend to add the the flock!

Their coop is also getting a new paint job, slowly but surely! I'll add a before and after picture once I've completed it! I'll also post pictures of the new roo and pullet!

I love Dot. She looks like my Lilly!

We got news about the new additions! The breeder sold her two EE cockerels, but she has 1 Deleware cockerel and 1 "iffy" EE "hen". There are two EE hens, and I plan on getting both if I don't especially like the Deleware. I'm gonna try my chances and see if the "maybe" EE hen of the two turns out to be a roo. I'll definitely post a thread once I get them for some extra help on sexing!

Hey everyone! I got the pullets! Turns out they were all female, so we got two beautiful girls! Meet Dumpling and Winnie!

I was going to name the rooster Winston, but she's a hen, so I decided on Winnie!

They are very scared of me, but they ate the grass I picked for them once I backed a few feet away from their coop. Any tips for getting them to trust me is greatly appreciated!

Finally finished the painting! It used to be an old dog run that I converted, so there’s still a dog house in it that the girls use as a roost. I’ll probably switch it for a real roost eventually, but here’s it is:

... I tried my best :p

It looks great! You have very lovely girls!

About roos...there are generalizations about all breeds but each bird is different. I had an EE roo who was great to my girls but very human aggressive. I have a mixed breed roo now who is great to the girls, and while not especially friendly, is not human aggressive. It just depends on the bird.

So happy you've joined us here on BYC! I look forward to more pics as you go along.
