The Hen Hut Flock! - 2019

Update:
It's drizzling where I am, but I let the big girls out to forage for a little bit before the rain got worse. Then I put them back, and I waited it out in the garage, then went back out on my stool and hung out beside the pullets. I gave them an old feeder I found to replace the dish they had on the first night, and they ate more out of it, which is a relief!

The rain had calmed back down to a drizzle so I just sat by the mini coop with the babies, and the older hens. Apparently, it was a good day to nap and preen, so the hens napped to the sound of the rain and cleaned their feathers. Also, I'm pretty sure the babies watch the older girls, because they too started preening on their little roost! They seem to be a lot calmer today, but still bit nervous... I'll get there though!

That's all folks! I'll try getting some more pictures tomorrow! Also, when would you recommend putting the pullets with the hens? Thanks!

What a nice group of lovely ladies.

Hello everyone! Some more updates:

Winnie's name got changed the Haddie since I just kept ending up calling her that XD

And the babies finally ate from my hand! Since their mini coop is stationed over leaves and no grass, I decided to pic a nice handful of grass for them. They had been watching the older girls eating the stalks around them and just had this look that said "Hey I wanna join!" and it melted my heart! So first, I stuck the strands of grass through the wire, and Dumpling began feasting. Then I would move it away so she could see I was holding it and that I was near her, and then I moved it back. Then I opened their little door and just patiently held it out for them. Haddie is very nervous, while Dumpling is more curious but cautious.

So you can imagine the joy when it was Haddie who came up first, still VERY cautious, and started plucking grass from my hands! It's really just the little things that are making so much progress. And they seem very healthy, so I'm thinking about putting them with the older girls either this weekend or in the following week. I may also just have them together while I'm there, then put them back in their little coop at night or when I'm not there to supervise.

Anyways, on to a few pictures!
