The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Don't leave us hangin'. Break out those pictures!
Ha, ha.
Was just transferring shots from camera to computer when you posted. These chicks are 4 weeks old today. The Mohawks from gatorhorse (Paul Gingerich). The first shot I wanted Bob and Bill to look at and let me know if this is the brick shape that I should be looking for at this early age. The other shots are just of all of them together. When I got these, Paul sent me 4 SLW along so that is what you see in there with the reds. lol

Here are ten Pictures I took Saturday. I have more and will post them latter.

I have difficulty posting my pictures from Photo Bucket on this site. So this is the best I can do right now.

As you can see the ages all have nice dark color. many chicks have that classic brick shape legs dead center.

Your chicks above look great in color dont worry about brick shape at this age. The will have what you want. The blood is still there. However, you need and others need to introduce some of the cross birds that are half Illinois and half Florida line. This can be done over the next few years but the chicks are alive and growing 20 miles from me. Pictures are in the ten I posted on Picture Trail.com

Thanks for posting your pictures. bob

Hey Bob,
I am planning on seeing if Matt will have a couple young cockerels that he would ship out to me this fall. Then I can cross them with some of my pullets for next year then go from there. I've already been thinking of this. lol Thanks for all your advice.
Jim
Had to come back and edit this Bob, those are nice pictures and wow, those are some really nice hens that were used in this years breeding pens. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I see the type on that bird already. I think you should see it early on. I know with some of mine I see it when I take them from the hatcher to the brooder.

Wanted to share my little flock with the thread. These are chicks I hatched out of eggs I purchased from thea71701. They are Adrain Rademcher Bloodline and I am loving these little guys! Two are SC's and the rest are RC's. I think (fingers crossed) that my 2 SC's are cockerel and pullet. I am still not sure about the RC's but I think I have 2 cockerels and 4 pullets. Not sure if you can see the one on the left middle--it just does not seem to be feathering in like the rest of the chicks--has anyone seen this before? There is some pecking from the other on the fluffier feathers but that does not seem to be causing it. I really love all of their personalities. The little SC cockerel is already calling the others when he finds something good to eat. My other breeds are all for themselves at this age.

There will be some extra large fowl Mohawks this fall from South Alabama. I think you could pick them up in Clanton athe fall  show in October or make a Road Trip to the Gulf Coast. I got to go see them maybe this Friday afternoon.  They are the old line I use to have. Dark, brick shaped, green tailed the works. Glad others are getting them. Hopefully the Don Nelson line and this line can be spread all over the USA this year and next year. Both are great lines but should never be crossed to avoid a gene pool blow out. No reason to make a cross if you do you will have to work five years to get back to where you started. To many people have each line and can share with others in the next year. Bob

Hey Bob,
Would you mind PMing me the info on these so that I can find it again when it starts getting time for the show? Just basically the same thing as in the oost plus any info on thhe breeder as well as the name of the line that you think I might need would be awesome :)

Thanks for the comment Bill. I know you told me that in an email and just wanted to make sure I was looking for the right thing. lol

I am writing an article for my up and coming something and wondered if any of you Rhode Island Red experts know what this item is and what it was used for. My wife got this for me about ten years ago on eBay or somewhere for my birthday. Found it when I was cleaning out some old drawers. Look forward to what you think it might be. There is more to this story lets test our knowledge of history of the breed and the club. bob
