The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Wow you are smart. Yes it was money that they raised about $2,000 which was a lot in those days. I have a Fob that I guess was in the mid 1920s that I took a picture of. The leather is old but the medal is like new.

It is interesting and they had a big day in the 1920s when they had the dedication of the opening ceremony. I think Harold Tompkins was pictured that day wearing shorts of all things.

It is still there and it is near a base ball park in the little town I think Adams ville, RI.

Thanks for the interest. More to come. bob

I haven't looked through this whole thread, so I apologize if I missed the answer to my question, but does anyone know of anyone in Rhode Island that sells heritage RI reds?! It's sad that I can't fine this online (and that I don't know) because I live in the town where they were created...

Just figured someone on here may be able to answer that before I could find the answer on my own. (btw, when you go the RI Reds Heritage Society that comes up first on google...it's a hockey team!)

Hey Bob, I'm in a very small community and our local radio station has a guy that comes on once a week and they call him the story teller. He tells all these really old time stories from way back.
I think we folks on BYC are going to have to nominate you as being the story teller for the RIR Thread. lol
You are a very interesting person. I was thinking that maybe that fob was an ID type badge that maybe the judges wore on their belt. Ha, ha, little did I know. DUH
Not excluding any of you other really knowledgeable folks on here. I love reading all this old time stuff.

In the old days men had pocket watches and I think this would go with the pocket watch. They put the watch in the pocket of their bib over alls that a lot of them wore.

There are so many stories to tell. It keeps the tread going and on topic. It could be worse and die like som many treads have.

In regards to R I Reds in Rhode Island Don Nelson has one of the top strain in Rhode Island or near his home. He lives in Wyoming Rhode Island he is listed in Poutlry Press in the Judges secton and in all the apa and aba year books. He may be able to get you some for you. If not New York Red has his line and they will be perfect for your climate. What city do you live in in Rhode Island?

Thanks for your posts and I will have to come up with something else to test you guys. You are well schooled. bob

Thanks, Robert, I actually got the information for Don Nelson from another member today

I am not looking for any right away but I would love to get some soon. I live in Little Compton, RI (where Adamsville is located). It just surprises me that we have a monument to them in town but I don't actually see any around anymore. Seems like such a shame.

Don turned his flock of large fowl Reds over to someone else awhile ago. He only has the Bantam Reds now. However, he is working with the people who have the large fowl now & if you contact him through the info on the APA website he will be able to direct you to the people who have the birds now.
