The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

wow Thats interesting. Have you all seen Red Bantams like this in the show room?
I get pictures sent to me of these birds and I see this in the pictures emailed to me and I see
them in the Poultry Press. Many people on another web site its all caused by the camera and the person taking the
picture. I say bull. I see Reds lean forward or rise up when the picture is taken but the tail angle of a rock is not a bad picture in my view. I dont know if the judges want to touch on this I dont want to put them in a tough position.

All I know is flat back females with brick shapes like our good large fowl produces the same.

I got a female that is about four months old and she is bricked up like no Buddy's business. I hope to have a few more.

Thanks Tom for hoping in. Nice to see you posting. bob

I got a personel message from a reader of this site asking how old this male large fowl red was when i took his picture. I think he was six months old and this would be about ten years ago. He did have a nice lenth of back his tail filled out very nice at age eight months. He was very dark. Hope this helps you. bob

The first picture is of the little Mohawks that I just got yesterday from Paul and the second picture is of the Don Nelson chicks that hatched Thursday from the first set of eggs I got from NYREDS. I didn't get a very good hatch but have another 14 that go into lock down today. These will be worked in with the 10 Don Nelson that I got from dinahmoe. This is the last of chicks for me for this year. Incubators being cleaned and put away till 2013. I now have 24 of the Illinois Mohawks to work with and yes Bob I did get in touch with Matt and he is going to try and raise me a couple of nice cockerels from his Florida/Illinois cross to send me this fall to mate with these for next year. I know these are just babies right now but these Don Nelson and the Mohawks that I have gotten are some of the nicest RIR chicks that I've ever had. I am tickled to death and feel so proud to have these to work with next year. I will be watching them awfully close to see which will be used in breeding program.

I won't be being a pest with post and pictures of my little ones for a while. lol Thanks so much to you all for your most welcomed comments over the past few months.

Toooo cute Chris. My RC's from Dick are really getting nice. I'll get a few shots of them in a few days. Where did you foundation stock come from. I know you've had them for a while. I've seen pictures different times on here. Seems not matter how many we have, the new ones are still exciting. lol

Jim,

The Rose Comb Line I have been working on is out of Dick Horstman Rose Combs and Denny Myers Single Combs and I have been breeding this line for about 6 years.

Yes its a nice site to see. Next year there will be more to help the beginner get going just like last year witht the barred rocks and the New Hampshires. They are all over the place.

We need to promote a new breed for next year. Why not Buff Leghorns.

Know anybuddy who has good ones. Worth fooling with?

One thing you need to look for in your chicks in the next three weeks. Watch the rate of groth. Keep a eye on the ones who jump out in feathering and mark them some how so you can see how they mature. If they are real good in type. They are your best breeders for next year. bob
