The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

He will be fine just think of what he will look like next year as a cock bird. Schilling use to say you guys should hire me to paint you a cut for a Red Ckl and a Red Pullet.

Remember he said the picture you look at in the American Standard of Perfection is a 18 month old cock and hen bird.

He is a true Standard Breed Rhode Island Red. This is at least a true Version of what they should look like on the ground. So lurkers who have feed store production reds this is what we preach on this thread for the past two years. Very good job we are proud of your work and your interest in the breed.
Bob,
I may be misunderstanding you or you misunderstanding me but I never said that the bird wasn't a Standard Bred Red.

Now I could be wrong but I don't think that age is going to fix tail angle and levelness of back all that much. As you know a Male Red should have a tail angle of 20* and a level and flat back, the bird that Chris H posted has a level tail and a roach back.

I have to say I never use the pictures that are in the standard, they are only the artists interpretation of the written part of the standard.

G'morning everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what line of RIR was present in the Carolines in the ear;y 1900's. My Great grandfather got his first Reds there, and brought them back to Arkansas. Any help would be very appreciated. VIVI

Hey Jim howdy doody to you. LOL I went digging thru some of you pics on here earlier today. Man you got some good stuff going on there and good photography too. My pics always look dreadful and like I pull the trigger right at the exact wrong time LOL

Jeff
I used to have problems getting decent pictures as well. I don't even bother with trying anymore for still individual shots. I started taking only videos and then capturing the still frames from those on the PC. I get way better results that way. It takes a little extra time, but I think it is worth it.

We had a good time at the show today. We ended up getting a first place, breed champ and champion cockerel with the RIR I posted a pic of the other day....

I know another lousy pic but that's all I could get with a phone.

We also got a first place and breed champ with a NH rooster and a second place with a BR cockerel. The BR that beat us was a pullet I sold about a month or so ago. We only brought the thee birds and this was just a small show at a State Fair but it was our first show and we had a good time.

Thanks guys.

Jeff, in the BR class the bird that won was a pullet I sold the lady a month ago the 2nd place bird was mine and the 3rd place bird was a Cockerel a couple months older than the one I was showing and I sold that bird to those people as well, lol!
