The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Thanks Fred. Now we can see what we are talking about. Both great chickens for thier purpose. One is egg production the other a dual purpose old breed that needs help to keep it going the Original Heritage Rhode Island Red. The Orange chicken is not a Rhode Island Red but in the eyes of thousands is the real deal. When you type in Rhode Island Red on Bing you will fine 100 of them and only one of the real chicken the dark Rhode Island Red.

Its funny you can see a dog sticking his head out a window going down the road and you can say to your self thats a xyz dog. Sometimes you say to your self he is trying hard to be a German Shepard or a Boxer. But when you see a pure breed you know its the real breed of dog.

Why in chickens its the opposite. The scrubs get all the glory and the pure breed birds are looked upon as worthless, wont lay or wont thrive.

Hang in there folks you are learning and finding the real breeds and getting better every month.

Well I was able to get a picture of two of my hen that are in a breeding pen, they don't look to bad after a good molt. I chanced there feed around a bit this year and was able to darken them up some.

Couple of Rose Combs

A Single Comb (Darker one)

Hey melroseladi and mrheinz77 this is what I found about 15 minutes ago in my hatcher, lol Guess it just couldn't wait until tomorrow. Maybe it figured The early bird would get the worm. ha,ha

For those who didn't know, I got some Underwood eggs from Jim Heinz a few weeks back. They are just starting to hatch. Will post in a day or so how it goes. This chick really is darker then it shows on the picture, I was shining the light right on it through the bator lid and it made it look really light. I have 8 RC eggs and 7 SC eggs in there. This is one of the SC chicks.

Wow. That is great news. I sent you 18 eggs, right? 15 of 18 is great, especially for shipped eggs.

Yes Sir Mr. Jim, You sent 18 and 15 went into lock down. Only two were clear. The other one I put in bator but I don't really expect it to hatch. It had a dark spot up by the air sack. Don't know what it is. I put it in lock down anyway but didn't count it as one that may hatch. Just curious. ha,ha
Thanks Jim
Jim
I can say that even if these don't all hatch, they did all develop.

Awesome!!!!! Mine are due to hatch in 1 week, next friday night. I had 2 clear, 1 early quiter, and 1 am not sure about. I have 9 showing good development and good movement, 4 RC and 5 SC. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can get them through 1 more week. I am beyond excited and anxious.

OH MY GOODNESS Penny, And now there is two. lol Another one just jumped out of the shell.
Just make sure your humidity is fine and leave them alone until time to put them into lock down then forget about them for the next 2 - 3 days and you'll do just fine.
Both these are from the SC eggs but there was one of the RC's rolling around just a minute or so ago. lol

It sounds like your lone Underwood pullet is going to get a flock. Yea!!!! I can't just forget about mine, they are in my bedroom right next to my bed, lol. I look through the bator window a hundred times a day. Not sure what I am looking for but I can't go in my room without taking a look at them. Tomorrow I am going to pick up leg bands and turn on my hatcher to make sure it is working properly. My brooder is all set up and ready to go. Just 1 more week to go!!!!!! Can't wait to see pics of all of your little ones all fluffed up and running around. Penny

Are the Bantam RIR cockerels loud? I'm planning on getting one, but I'm technically am not supposed have cockerels where I live, and I really want one. I have a big, pretty soundproof coop to put one in, but it will only muffle the sound if the cockerel is loud.
