I change the feed around this year and that helped a lot (along with line breeding), the lighter reds in there are about to go into molt and I hope they darken up nicely also.

I hope that I can do some some improvement on them this spring and summer, I want to work on a few thing but other than that I think they are looking very good.

It is a mineral that is in the feed that helps darken the Red color in some breeds, Example Reds and New Hampshires will darken some if the mineral copper is added at the right amount to there feed.
Line Breeding has some to do with it, but feed and genitics plays a good part also.

Tony Albritine in Idaho may have the Underwood Rose Combs not sure. He might be able to ship you eggs or chicks. Other wise there are so few Rose Comb Breeders to help you that are hard core breeders. Maybe someone who is on this tread would send you some eggs or better ten started chicks that are two weeks old overnight ex pres. They would do well in your climate.

We have plenty of time to work on this. Breeding season for most of us is after Christmas.

Anyone have any suggestions?

mrheinz77 is who I got my eggs from a few weeks ago. He posted on here that he is the one that got Trish Dusil's Underwood line. She supposedly got her birds directly from Gary Underwood. She got out of the RIR's and Jim took them over. I got 18 eggs from him, put 15 in lock down and as of right now have 10 hatched with 2 more with pips in and movement. Their hatch date was today. Not bad % from shipped eggs.
When I got these, there were 10 eggs from the RC and 8 from the SC. I will have to wait till they are completely done to see how many from SC and RC hatched. The eggs were all marked.
Don't know if he would be selling/shipping any more eggs right now or not but they could PM him and ask. I feel that I've had pretty good luck with mine.

Hey Chris, my girls/guys are enjoying pumpkins also. I just split some yesterday and threw them in the runs. Just took some pictures of them this morning enjoying their treats. lol They really seem to like it.

Jim,
Most all my animals like pumpkin, I was able to get about 6 to 7 hundred pounds of pumpkin for free this year and I've been feeding it about everyday to the chickens and goats.
