This is the most informative thread of any breed on BYC. I am learning much into breeding RIR's. Thanks breeders.

Well...Here's the thing about all that in a nut shell. The Heritage RIR breed didn't really go away. This thread is devoted to that old pure strain and those people that want to preserve it. Like people that are trying to preserve Heirloom seeds of old heritage vegetables and fruits. Those genes are a valuable resource that once gone are gone forever. That would be a great loss. Wouldn't you agree? But, wait, just because a breed changes doesn't mean it's bad, right? Just because over a hundred years a breed becomes lighter, it can't be the end of the world... It seems to me that some people get too snobby. Production reds are even prettier then heritage... They are worth respect as well.

I own a production red roo and love him greatly. He is indeed a beauty. He has a few hens to call his own of equally pretty production mixed breeds. No one here is trying to prevent anyone from breeding or raising those kinds of birds. However...This thread is called "The Heritage RIR site". That's what is being promoted here. Not "The Production Red Site".![]()
