by heritage he means standard bred & by the look if your birds I'd say you got them at a hatchery/feedstore is this right?

They have pretty good type. There are not many Rose Comb bantams left anymore. What strain are they from?

Have you considered crossing them onto a real typey single comb line and then smooth out the combs over the nest three or five years. bob

Not sure what line they are from, I got them from a gentleman named Matt John from Indiana. At least I think that is his name. I would love to improve their type. Where can I get some real typey RIR bantams? From what I understand, Mr John has nice birds. (These were probably his culls). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am very interested in preserving rare and heritage breeds. Thank you for your input Rob! (You were the person that I was most hoping to hear from

If you want to experiment with my bantams they have the old fashion type. Then cross say one of my males onto two of your best females and then when they have chicks pick the best typed bantam rose comb male and mate to the females or if you have two males splint the season up and let each male have say 40 days with each pair of females. Then see which males come out the best. If you get say one or two real good typey females mate them to your best Rose Comb male. Then we can worry the next year what to do. It would be a five year project but it would be neat to see rose combs on these bantams. I could also ship you this male if you wanted him. He would be perfect as I do not need him. I would give him to you. You pay shiping.

Its easy I put them in a small single nest box and take them to the post office about 1 p.m. the cost is about $35. and in about 24 hours you get a phone call from your post office saying you have a live bird. They can go about three days with out water and feed live started chicks about five weeks old go well to. You can get five to ten started chicks from a good breeder and you will get two pairs or a good trio and your off to the races. You send 12 eggs by mail and you may get three chicks to hatch. I will send you a personel message with more details. This is a picture of the box on my picture trail site and how I could ship eggs. The picture of the male red bantam below my name is the birds father. bob

we need to cut down of the use of '' heritage RIR" we are over using this term and you don't have to say this, if they are the real RIR. other people who have production reds call theirs "RIR" and breeders of very good ones call theirs "heritage RIR" on this sight when they are the people who have the real deal. they seem to say this because they don't want to be associated with Production reds and rightly so!

Does anybody have birds from Pine Grove's RIR stock that will have eggs or chicks available for the 2011 season?

I just received a message from him saying he was already sold out for next year.
