What does everyone do with shipped eggs? Let them settle or put them right in the incubator?

Ask a dozen people, get a dozen answers. I do think settling them for 24 hours in a cool place can only help. Some folks dont' turn them for another 24-48 hours upon putting them in the incubator. Lots of view points and it all comes down to whatever works.

It depends on how long it takes to get the incubator up to temperature and stable....The important thing is to let them come to room temperature if they are cold. Another factor is age. If they took a week to get to you and were collected for 3 days then they are already getting onto 10 days old. Those should be set as soon as they warm up.

Are you hatching some now?

You both are welcome! Picking up tolbunts and Black Jersey Giants on the way back. Should have a tub full of Fogle RIRs hatched when I return. I hope my nephew has it under control LOL His first big hatch.

Paulletta, hope your trip is going well. You went above and beyond to work chick delivery into your itinerary.
Thank You.

Ron
Thanks so much to both of you.

I agree. I have had good luck with shipped eggs and bad luck with shipped eggs. There is no guarantee with them. I personally put mine in the incubator as soon as I get them because I don't know how old the eggs are unless they have been marked by the shipper. Most often I do staggered hatches. I don't worry about letting them set for 24 hours or so. My incubator has a turner so the eggs are going to be turned and as I look at it, exercising the embryo as it develops. Whatever works best for you.

I unpackage mine and let them sit correct side up for 24 hours... then put them in the incubator. I usually let the incubator run for 3-4 days prior to this to make sure it's regulating correctly.
I just put 16 Rhodebar eggs the incubator yesterday.
Am grateful I don't have to hatch my RC RIR... they are coming live this coming week - 20 of them. I am SO very excited!! Been looking for just the right chicks for a long time.
