The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Pertaining to my Nelson line birds. I had gotten eggs from a BYC member early last year dinahmoe on here who had gotten her birds from David Bosworth who got his directly from Don Nelson. He is the guy from Mass that Bob talked about some time ago. Then I got eggs from William Post (NYREDS) BYC, I used my cock bird that had the widest back and long keel and crossed him with these hens. It seems that the young boy on the picture is going to have pretty nice type to him with the back width. I have another boy just a couple of weeks younger that is very nice. No pictures yet. The hens that I used all have nice length to the body, nice tail spread, wide heads and very nice size. The ones from Bill have super nice color to the tails. I'm hoping to have some really nice young birds to work with next year in this line.
Bob, I think you are right that Don gave all his LF to someone else to work with. My understanding is that he kept just a few bantams for his granddaughter to work with. I think I read this on another forum some time ago. These have been really good layers since January. I lost two of my big hens this summer to the heat so I'm really down on them also but have a few young girls growing out that are looking really nice. Will post a pic or two of them a little later down the road or post them on my site. lol Sometimes I get pretty busy and just forget about updating things.
Anyway, that is the story of my Nelson birds. lol

I got a personel message a few minutes ago from two people one asking who would I go with for SC RI Reds and Barred Rock Large Fowl.

In R I Reds Don Nelson line is a good one but I don't think has any on his yards anymore. There are some folks that have his line and got chicks from him or a friend who he farmed his birds out to. Its a good line if you can get some chicks and I would have ten shipped to my house in a heart beat. One of the top lines in the USA over the last 15 years.

There are other lines out there and good ones. So many willing to share so get you some from folks on this forum if the can spare them or get on their list for this spring. I am on a list and as excited as a Kid at Christmas. Remember make this venture simple. Don't get caught up on line breeding, feed, color just raise them up and try to keep them from getting killed by varmint's or dogs. Don't worry about the color when these guys are baby chicks you got to wait till the have adult feathers. Keep it simple and you all will all do just fine.

woos this nice young man?

Sorry Bob, I didn't have what line he was. I edited the post. He is 20 week old Nelson

Don't see much on the Don Nelson line HRIRs on here but just wanted some of the newcomers on here to know there is another line of HRIRs out there.

I have a few from this line. Mine are just to young to talk about right now but they look nice.

Chris

Same here. But, here's a little Nelson line bird.

This is a picture Don Sent me many years ago. This male is one you want to keep or print out and the use this as your guide when they start looking like this guy you know you have found his old germ plasma running in your Nelson line. This is one of the best males to be hatched in 20 years. Look at the color?

Yup, He's in these chicks somewhere, I reckon. LOL Just gotta go mining for gold.

I saw on the auction page Dinahmo had all her fowl for sale due to health reasons. For some reason the page kept locking up on me. It may have been an older post, I was going to try to go back and look at the date, but I finally gave up.
