LUCKY YOU
Sally,On my double yolk layers, I got one single and one double today. I was reading up on some of the different things in the feed. Turns out that the feed I got from the grain place had flax seed in it. Not sure how much though. I remembered a poster in my state thread not wanting to feed flax seed as it can increase egg laying hormones much in the same way soy can. After rereading several of her posts I think maybe the feed was increasing the odds of getting a double yolk from my newer layers by combining soy and flax seed. I changed the feed back to the feed store all flock today. hoping this helps. I had been feeding my red sex link hen and other younger pullets the all flock and had not gotten a double yolk from the sex linked hen yet.
And while I'm sure most of the guys on this thread won't care, it turns out that soy and flax mixed can increase a human female's odds of releasing one or more eggs. Taking soy pills happens to be on the list of natural fertility treatments. Amazing what is on google now. Of course it has not been directly linked back to chickens yet...
Glad to hear that you got to meet Steven. I've never met him in person but talked to him many times on the phone and consider him a dear friend. Am also glad to hear that you got some good reds from him to start with.I had a chance to meet Steven (scribble) . He is great down to earth guy. I am thankful and lucky enough to be able to get a few reds from him. And also to see his birds and hear some of his knowledge about them.
x2But when you have a passion for it it isn't work. ;-)
