The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Who here has the Mohawk strain? I'm interested in getting LF reds and I'm very interested in this strain. I'm looking for a trio but won't be able to get any until spring or next fall. I will be attending Wapekoneta in March and Lucasville in May. I will also be attending Lucasville in the fall and the Ohio national.

Thanks, Corey

I don't know who has the Mohawk/Reese line in your part of the country but if you look back through this thread, I think there are a few posts where attempts were made to list the various Heritage lines and who has them and where they are located.

This is a picture of one of my two Horstman SC RIR---Kittle Line. The others are a Wheaten Penedesenca and Partridge Penedesencas

Ron might correct me when he comes on here. but I think he calls his line from Ricky Bates who got Mohawk from Bob but the story is later crossed another line in them???? just what I remember from a conversation about their lineage.

The tricky part of it is when did Ricky Bates cross the lines compared to when Ron got his strain. I think I recall it was after Ron got his birds or it did not involve the birds Ron got.

But….. didn't the St Germaine family in LA have the birds in between? (hope I have that name right).
I do believe Ron has stated that his birds did not have crosses, that any crossing that may have been done by the Bates, was after Ron already had his birds.

Not that this makes any difference to me, quite honestly, as Ron's birds have type that is simply phenomenal.

The term Mohawk was Bob's. He earned the right to call them anything he wished to call them. In truth, the line is what others call the Reese line. Again, if Bob wanted to call them Mohawks, then that's what they were to him. I've heard him tell the story many times and have read his telling of it from his site many times. Good story teller, it was part of his charm. I mean that with a great deal of affection and admiration.

The Story I found was that Ricky Bates got them from the St. Romains and then Ricky Died in a car crash. Ron got them from Rickey's Brother.

I believe the St. Romains got them from Bob. I do not know about crossing but Ron has been breeding them for a while now.

Thanks Ron. Romain, not Germaine.

Again, Ron's birds? They're Rons. They are his. Flat out, plain and simple. He's honest and humble enough to always give nod to those who came before him, as we all should. But make no mistake. This is Ron's line. And a whopping good line it is.
