The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

That is so true, and the Red Stars lay really well, too. They both seem to burn out pretty fast, though, after 2 years egg production drops drastically. I've hatched my own sexlinks, black and red, but they didn't have the selective breeding MM puts into their "star" hybrids, I don't think they laid like them.
That is so true Marcy, I had a few of those also a while back. The only thing I noticed with the red stars is that they aren't as big if you want to butcher any and they didn't seem to lay quite as long as the blacks. The blacks that I had were a much meatier bird and seemed to lay a year or so longer then the reds. I still have one black that is probably 5 or 6 years and still see her in the nest once in a while but the egg is smaller now. About the same as my RIR's that are in the layer flock.
Love my RIR's but can't beat the hatchery stuff if you are selling eggs to help pay feed bills. lol

The red stars I got from meyer hatchery are skinny little birds but their eggs are close to jumbo if not a bit heavier and rounder.
Still I don't have a way to breed red stars. So I thought I would try my hand at black stars. I got mainly roos. Still the few females I did get are starting to get big and they have a nice shape to them.

I know this is a Red page but wanted to share a picture of my line of Rhode Island Whites

5.5 months old, huge birds,

As usual they pose so well for me. LOL I took about 50 pics and kept 5. Everytime I would get a good pose one of the other birds would walk right in front of them. Would love any and all comments...good, bad, and ugly. I have a pretty tough hide so have at it. LOL

First off, I don't see a thing wrong with you posting the RIW's on here. lol I think that CMOM is the one that has the RIW's and she would probably be the better one to give comments. I've never had the white ones but I believe the type etc would be the same as the red other then color it seems to me that everything should be the same ?????????? I think they are very nice looking birds and if I wasn't so hung up on my reds I may even hit you up for some next year. lol In the first picture, that one on the right has a nice level back and looks to be pretty long and wide and a very nice keel on him. The bottom picture, other then a little fluff on the back but I'd say that is probably normal for the age, I'd say she is really nice. They do appear to be really nice size. I think you can be a little proud of the way you are raising them. Gosh, I don't think they would be that white if they were at my house. We have been having so much rain and making mud. My broody hen had boots on a day or so ago and the chicks were looking for their canoe. We've had so much rain lately.
Jim Keep up the good work with those white birds.

First let me say I am not directing this to anyone on here but I am stating a fact so that others that are not familiar will understand.

The Rhode Island Red and the Rhode Island White are two completely different breeds, they are not two varieties of the same breed.
The Red and the White have the same standard except the Whites only comes rose comb.

Ok with that over,
Rancher, your whites look good. It is hard to look at a photo of a bird and judge it so what I see in the photo might not hold true in real life.
As for flaws, well like I said it's hard to judge a photo but looking at the second photo and at the hen that you see all of her.
I would like to see a flatter back with more length of back, more depth of lower breast [those two things will give you brick shape], better tail angle and darker leg and beak. She has good white color and carries her wing well, she also looks to have her legs well centered under her.

Nice looking birds, and I hope this helps some.

Chris09, I thank you for the comments even these are not my birds. I like the info. Also it is great hearing from you. It's been a long time.

I noticed your title is Circle M Ranch. My property was also part of a Circle M Ranch. Many years ago it was subdivided into 5 and 10 acre parcels. There are a few smaller parcels and some larger parcels. Here is the original branding iron.

Hey Jimmy, how's everything going?
It has been a long time, I think about a year.
Things are going well and yes, probably a year or more. lol I go back through the old post on this forum every once in a while and just a couple of weeks ago I was reading up on some of the posts that I was asking you questions about the RC combs.. I don't forget to many of the ones that were posting on the beginning of this thread.
Hope all is well with you and yours. Have a wonderful day
Jimmy

Learning so much from just reading here. Making my plans on how I am going to separate to make sure I get just Nelson/Nelson eggs for the main hatching next year. Then the Kittles. And all others into the eating bin. Soon as my flock gets higher in RIR the others will go so all I have is RIR.

Biding time until then and learning all I can from others questions and answers. :D
