Sorry my misunderstanding.

Absolutely no need to be sorry! You have a very valid point and I totally respect your experience! Any and all advice I can get from people like you who know their stuff is welcome any time.

Oh, and I checked out your website! I would LOVE to order some eggs someday in the future...but I hesitate because of how far away I live and I worry that they will get scrambled before they got here.

X2 ♡♡
Its never too late to learn imo. . I'm still waiting to get my reds. .trying to get all the silkies and polish at least in the grow out pens before I add more.. but I am with you on the nice birds.. I don't expect perfection from anything, but the better I have to start with, the faster kids will have decent birds.. I just hatched tolbunt babies and already has people ask about eggs next spring...not that I expect to have a whole lot of work to do on that pen, I have no desire to sell anything for the next year or three..I want to make sure whatever is leaving my farm represents it's SOP, not just 'close'..I take that approach no matter the color or even species...

Lovely beak color.

We'll eat the extra roos but still I wish there was some way to encourage more females. My 3 goats on the other hand each kidded 1 female kid in the past month. I'm thankful for than as does are desirable this year.

As for broodies, I can't make up my mind. I like them this time of year but last winter I had some chicks get hatched out when I had no easy way to keep thawed water outside for them. So I brought the entire nest inside for a bit. Next time I'll do a better job of preventing a hatch in winter. Right now I have 1.5 broody ducks, they are sharing a nest most times there are 2 on the nest but the one is clearly not on the nest as much. I also have at least 2 broody hens that are at least a week into it. Then there are the 3-6 hens that can't seem to make up their minds.

Lots of birds here. But come processing day my freezer will be full. I'll post before them but if anyone is interested in roosters I'm almost sure I'll have plenty.
Sally,
I just put 2 more in the box from the bator and got 5 more eggs in there one is working on zipping around and see a pip in another one but anyway right now I got 12 alive and being very vigorous in the box. lol I'm satisfied with this hatch.

They are so lovely glad everything Working out good and it looks to me like they are gonna be a dream team.

My project chicks at 3 days old. Loving their color. My broody hen that was due to hatch decided that she didn't want to be a momma. She was on the nest hard setting for 17 days then decided she didn't want that anymore. I'm only hoping that I got the eggs into the bator soon enough. Every egg has chick in it. I will know in just a few days whether I got them in time or not. Gee, this is sort of upsetting.

I hope they all do great ♡ Makes ya really wonder what they're thinking sometimes to devote all that time and then..boom..just decide they're done.. I am hoping to have several Silkies that are ready to start going broody this time next year..hoping being the key word..lol.. My fingers and toes are crossed for your lil ones, let us know how they do :) Btw, your chicks are even stunning..I'd trade almost anything in my brooder for color like that.
