So much for the golden years. "What?". I do enjoy our birds. We also raise Rose Comb Rhode Island Whites. My husband has a favorite "Patty". When she sees him she comes running over to him. He will give her treats. She has his number. If he doesn't pay attention to her she will get it by giving him a little peck to tell him she is there. I do take care of the birds. Hubby has Parkinson's. Good luck with your birds and have fun...

I'm one of those weird people who "just have to know". Sort of like the "a place for everything & everything in its place". My husband bought 7 bantam roosters from a farmer who said they were game birds. Each one if different from the other & I've tried to look up game birds & the various kinds to find out what they are even though we don't plan to do anything with them. But, the fact that I can't identify them specifically, drives me to distraction. This has been true with the RIRs as well. I think at this point, I need to learn more about these birds before making any decision on them. There is obviously more to know than the fact that they are big, dark & have black tail feathers & that's all I knew a couple of months ago. I have learned a little more but still have much more to learn. I am still hoping to move forward with a proven line at some point, simply to help preserve the heritage line & because my husband loves RIRs.

What part of Mississippi are you in Asmorilda? North, Central or South?

I don't know why but all of my Reds have started later than most. I have seen them exploring the nest boxes. I do have a RIW that just started laying that are in with my Reds. Hopefully more of the RIW pullets will start soon. I haven't separated the Whites from the Reds yet but finally got all the birds banded so I can keep track of who's who especially when I set up my breeding pens. I have separated the males from the females and put the males in bachelor coops and pens.

Golden years. Hmmmm. Well, on the "up" side....we'll never get bored. Everything is new all over again within a few weeks. LOL I read a saying today that said, "If my memory gets any worse, I will be able to plan my own surprise party". I have an Orpington pullet that wants me to pick her up & will snuggle my leg each step I take until I pick her up. If I don't take her hint, she will lightly peck at my shoe or pants leg. They are endearing...& entertaining.

Red Ridge is in TN. She has wonderful birds. Maybe get on her list for chicks or fall trios. Clearly the trios cost more money but imo its so much better as you can see right away that they are the real thing.

I'm not familiar with Red Ridge. Is that their name on this list or the name of the town where they live? I will try to find them. Thanks for the information on them.
