The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I agree, Production Reds. These are pure young Rhode Island Reds and a few Rhode Island Whites.
More than the color is the difference. Look at the shape of the body and the angle of the tail. The RIR in the bottom picture are bigger too. The Production reds have a curve to their narrow backs that swoop up to a high tail angle. The tails are also pinched.

I really need to get some pics of our birds posted. I would really like some input on them. They don't have red looking eyes. The are more goldish or what some might call amber. Other than that, they look like the Mohawks I've seen in pictures.

Here are some pics of my birds. What do you think? Are they Mohawk line? You can see the eye color in the third pic though it does look a little more yellow / gold than it actually is. They are about 4 months old now. Will their eye color change when they get older?

I can't tell by the pictures whose line they may be descendants of. I know the line of my birds because I purchased my original birds from breeders of my line and I haven't bred any other birds into it. If I do get any birds to put with mine, I know the breeder I get them from so I can keep the line pure.

When do the hens start laying? They are not squatting or showing any interest in the nesting boxes. My wife think they are duds!

While I was not given a definitive birth date (I was given a month of birth), we are anywhere between 29 and 33 weeks.

Unless you are giving them supplemental light, they may not lay eggs until spring. Chickens need twelve to fourteen hours of light a day to lay.

If you add light, you need to make sure that you do not stop until spring.
