The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Just a line of Reds I worked on bout 25 years ago. I pulled a lost gene to the surface from a old male used in 1929 called Mohawk V.

There are many other good lines out there what state do you live in maybe we can help you find what you are looking for. bob
Hi thanks for the reply. Wow 25 years to one breed! That is amazing! I am in Florida. I will be looking for some (eggs hopefully) in the spring. I am phasing out all my hatchery layers in the laying pens and replacing them with heritage types.

His reds in Rose Comb came from a old frined of mine Howard Kindle of Kansas befor  he died.

Its a old line over 40 years old.

You should be happy with them. bob

I can't wait for them. They are coming at the end of next month. I will be showing them *maybe* in May, but for sure in August and October. I'm anxious to see how they do in the show room.

For you Rose Comb fans here is a picture I found in my computer in a lost file.

Taken about ten years ago. Very nice type and the correct color for a Rhode Island Red.

If yours dont have this color then they are not Origianl Rhode Island Reds.

Just took a picture of one of the Mohawk Cockerel's that I think I will be keeping. He is just a few days shy of being 7 months old. His tail is not fully in yet but still I think he is looking pretty nice. What do you folks think?

Nice male Jimmy. Will look great when he is a year old. Rose Combs might or might not lay as well. Have no idea. It depends on the strain and if the owner pushed his birds to lay more eggs. Most guys dont they are just trying to keep their heads above water for type and color.

I have some pictures of New York II he and all the chickens today did not like me taking pictures I guess the flash scared them.

He is the son of New York Reds male he sent me a year or so ago.

I got two nice males one killer pullet like her dad and one nice pullet needs comb improvement but will make a good breeder.

They are three fourth Mohawk bantams and 1/4 New York line. Will breed them back to half and half this year and have a new line called New York Reds. Thanks Bill its Christmas all over again. bobhttp://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/24276602

Remember Penny, we just had 6 inches of snow 2 days ago. lol Really melted today though, was in the low 50's today.
Thanks Bob and WOW, that is one beautiful white rock cockerel. I know what you mean by the NYREDS reds. I have 3 LF pullets from Bill's eggs and I'm sure liking them.
