The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I'll have to check with Cathy but I think it was 2nd to Mr. Flanagans other rooster. I'm just thrilled to have him. Mr. Flanagan, and Cathy have been so graciuos helping me get a new start. I'll show him and a Ba, possible a silkie in September. I spoke to Mr. Flanagan yesterday to thank him and to tell him I'll help further the line. He told me he wants to get the HRIR in this area. So far there is me Altie Jackson, a gentlemen in north TX, and Jackson brother in Gardendale whor aises the bantam BHRIR in this area.

Thats a nice pose of this male. Did those come from Minnesota Chris? Great finish. You lurkers reading this thread would you like to convert your feed store production reds to something like these real McCoys? It can happen. Just go do it. Where in Mississippi do you live. We have a house in Aberdeen.

The trio I got from Chris Herzog.

I am going to an auction next month, I am going to attempt and get some rose comb HRIR Bantams while I'm there. Hopefully someone will be bringing some to sell, I don't think there is many breeders within OR and WA.

Man, I think I made a mistake here! If you bring them back I'll fix it for you no problem!!! lol!!!!

Bob,
This cockerel came from Paul and the hens were from Matt. I started to say they were from the feed store and that they were just some extra yard birds I had but that male really looks good in that pic. I didn't think I would get away with that one! Lol! Great Pic!!!

I thought they where Mohawks but what do I know? The male looks very nice and glad Paul has the line on the up swing.

With his line in Colorado and Matts in Alabama this is a great cross for fresh blood for those who may need it. Matt has a half and half male or half Illinois and half Florida that is from what he says catching up with the Champion Large Fowl at the Lake City Show.

With these chicks and the new cross from this male this years chicks will be 3/4 Illinois and 1/4 Florida. This will be enough fresh blood to go another 15 years for him and then when others have this old line and share birds with each other with a separation of say 400 miles will be like a out cross with out destroying the gene pool that has been kept in tact for so many years. The last time this line from Georgia has had new blood from the last three major breeders was 1954. That's when Mrs. Donaldson got the last male from Harold Tompkins when he retired .

Will be going over to Matts tomorrow night to see these Reds and bring him a spare male for his breeding pen. I have kept five males and five females bordered them for about four months. It was kind of nice to have large fowl on the farm again but got to make room for this years breeders for the Mow hawk Red Bantams. Will have four special matings.

Thanks for the pictures it sure is a joy to look at good birds from all over the country. May be this year is the year of the come back for large fowl Rhode Island Reds.

I got these birds from Jerry Powell at the Ohio National 2 of the hens molted and look nice the other haven't molted yet so they look bad. The one hen went broody so she looks the worst. I plan on getting some chicks from Gary Underwood.
