The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Im not sure what exactly the bloodline is my grandfather bought them from a amish family back in the late 50's . We are beginning to see faults in their mindse its . They are beginning to walk funny . Toes become curled . They have perfect body structure but their inbreeding traits are showing . Weve had the same blood since the 50's never have we added even one rhode island from any other yard .

Good Job everyone!
I can't believe that after all of Y'all went......HUH!!!!!!!!
That you were able to restrain yourselves!

I dont own a computer just a phone i just need a link to good heritage rhode island red breeders . 3 generations of my family have raised rhode island reds with the same blood my grand father started which is a very long line . We need new blood in the yard pure rhode island reds i just need a few links i dont have much time to surf this thread my phone isnt so up to date .helpful information would be urls abd urls to rhode island red chicks pullets or adults only . And only those who have history or credibility . Any other information isnt needed. It would be like telling a wall howto stand if i would be given any care guide information . Or inexperience information. And ultimately an insult to my intelligence . I do love the short peices of what i have seen ,and for that i am greatful. But i simply just need links to credible breeders.

I too appreciate the links. Thank you.
I did find it confusing that the breeder in Michigan listed his line as Meyer Hatchery. Can Heritage RIR come from a hatchery? I ask because the chickens I have now are RIR from Meyer Hatchery. Is it possible that they are Heritage RIR and not production RIR?

Those Reds are not on my top ten list of Red Breeders. I dont know of anyone who sells good Standard Breed Reds other than Urch Hatchery which he has had them for over 30 years.

You can com pair the color allot to our pictures to see if they are dark or medium dark. They could have ordered ten chicks from a good breeder and have them in a breeding pen and I am wrong but if I see the pictures I can tell you if they are true or not. One Hatchery has some that are half and half. That is a good male with some cherry egger females. We have had people jump up and down on this tread years ago telling us these are the correct Reds or they where Rhode Island Reds but they where not.

He about drove us crazy with is expert advise.

Its a start and you get good experience with them you can keep them or find you some that are the real McCoys latter. It depends on what your goals are. The sad thing is using the name Rhode Island Red eggs for sale and then your customer ends up with Cherry Egger looking birds. It would be like me using my half beagle and half German Shepard male dog on a Re sistered German Shepard female and selling the puppies as pure breed German Shepard Dogs. There is a difference but in chickens only 1% care and the other 99% are happy with what they get from the feed stores. It wont be long and the feed stores will have these chicks for sale. Spring is around the corner.

I'll get some pictures later but I'm pretty sure mine are the lighter production RIR. I was just kind of hoping. To be honest, I'm just glad I was able to get enough good advice to get the understanding that I wanted RIR chickens before I went out and bought a bunch of white chickens. As you said, I'm learning a lot with this first batch. Better to learn on cheap chickens than heritage ones.
