The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Well thats why I was inquiring on them as William(pinegrove) is no longer breeding and selling his line. He has farmed them out to a couple (maybe down to just one now) I just thought you would/could be another source of his line. sgribble (Steven Gribble) could maybe put you in contact with the person(s) that have his line I think its someone in SC has them now.

Mr. Bennett's birds are still in Georgia but I don't think anybody will be getting any birds from him.......

How far are you from Tempe? I may be able to swing a trip that way in the next month. I need a RIR cockerel that harkens back to Reese/Mohawk, and would love to bring home a pair/trio of ROs as well.
Tucson is about 2 hours (120 miles) south of Tempe. I have the Illinois Reese line RIRs as well as Matt's 1/2 and 1/2s. PM me about them if you want to talk some more about it.

Bob acted as a sort of clearing house and record keeper of who had what. He also fielded alot of "what can I get" questions and did alot of match making.

As I told Bob before his passing, I feel blessed to 4 Nelson chicks from immyjay54 who got them from Dinahmoe and NYREDS. At this point, all I am doing is growing them out and trying hard to keep them safe and healthy. I won't have the luxury of doing much more than "making a bunch more" come spring. I hope to hatch out a ton of these birds. To say they are amazing is not adequate.

I would love to partner with someone in the MI-OH-IN area. To hatch, grow out, and select the proper birds that will be needed to continue this fine line of birds is going to take a few people getting involved with them.

While I'm here, Hatched this guy last year around this time. The only one that survived the shipping, incubation, and brooding phases. I hate shipped eggs, as it seems to me, the chicks are less hardy in the younger stages, but that's a discussion for somewhere else.

This picture is 1.5 months ago. I would love some input on him. He's currently just a mixed flock protector, but I was wondering if you experienced Red folks see any potential.

I'm just diving into the Reds, so my eyes are not yet trained.
I will only say this about this rooster. If you go to this site: tributetobobblosl.weebly.com and click on breeding rhode island reds to the standard of perfection, read the standard then come back to this forum and look at the many pictures and comments and then I think you will know what to look for and what is good or bad about your bird. Please don't think that I'm being smart with this comment but I think this is the best way to learn.

I really want to get pics of my Rhode Island Red,s up but Ireland is really living up to its rainy reputation lately. The birds look terrible in the rain. Their tails drop , their feathers saturate and they the stand upright. I promise I will get outside with the camera and show off my stock as soon as it stops raining.

Looking forward to more posts with the added entertainment of wondering which accent you might have! :)

I'm not posting more until mine are done with moulting... Don't want to go through the effort of getting them relaxed in a cage to take good pics until they are done. Maybe next month. Getcha about rain, from what I understand, climate's pretty similar to the PNW coast of the US. Shelton, town S of here a bit, gets 90+ inches a year. We're in a 'rainshadow' pocket, and we get around 30+. Plan is to keep them 'cooped' in the covered run for a couple days and let them dry out.

I will narrow down the accent bit for you (presuming you know a bit about Irish accents)

-I am not from the north
-I am not a dub
-I am not from the weshsht
-I am defiantly not from the "people's Republic of cork"
-I am not from the midlands
-think of a famous Irish song about a mountain and you'll have it

can you guess where my accent is from

I believe the average rainfall in inches is about 80 from where I am (rough conversion) Looking at the weather, I should have some pics up next weekend.

I would love some covered runs but they are expensive so for now my hens will have to deal with the rain.

Well, it is a shame that we are not closer, I too have the Nelson line hatched from JimmyJay and NYreds and I also have two hatched from Chickmagnet who has the Nelson line and is in Maine, so I plan to do the same thing you are in the Spring and try to hatch me a bunch. And if anyone down here in MS wants roosters I have them, Nelson line, beautiful, gentle, big.
