Hmmm, that could be a number of places...Mourne? but then ye b'aint from ter north. My great-granda was from the area around Donegal. He always prounounced 'th' like 'ter' He died when I was very young.
Tipperary?
Yo
lucky guess I suppose. I am from Tipperary. I live in the Sliabh na mBan valley
Drat! I didn't even get a chance to guess... But am grateful that will help slow the rolling panoply of divergent 'voices' I've been trying on in my head. I do that with everyone. Anyone from the East of our country, can't pronounce Oregon for the love 'nor money, let alone Yakima. Now I'm going to pester my friends homeschoolers who are in 2nd yr Gaelic and studying culter about what they might know about your valley :)

I don't know anything about the different parts of Ireland but when I was in the Army and was transferring from the states to Germany, we stopped in Ireland to fuel up and oh how beautiful it was over there. I am Dutch/Irish and would love to someday visit your part of the world. I love writing back and forth with Darren and reading his lingo. He is a whole lot younger then I but when we are talking chickens it makes no difference. lol

Love these shots. Am I right in saying that you folks use some sort of hedge for your fencing over there? The shrubbery???????

Our front hedge is laurel with post and rail with wire in front, the back hedge is beach with an evergreen (name won't come to me now) with post and rail behind and post and wire between.

Most ditches (hedges) are a mixture of brambles and other native trees and bushes as in the ones around fields.

Pulled out my #1 bird again today to get another look at him after another month of growth. Puts him at eight months. He is one heavy dude! His back measures plus nine inches from base of hackle to base of tail. Everything about him is x large. He is relaxed in the cage and doesn't get overly excited anymore when I open the cage door and smooth his feathers over his back and tail. Compared to my #3 pick, he still looks like the best male.

The big guy is still #1 pick. He is smooth across the back. I feel no hump or cushion. #3 is lighter. Down ward sloping back.

I'm still really happy with this boy. Big, dark red, broad, and square.
