The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

It may be that they are taking a while to settle. I'll send a PM after the holidays to the breeder I got them from if it continues. I can't image that he has this problem as he has sent out lots of chicks. I do like the super giant eggs for eating so all is not lost but I did want to hatch their eggs.
My other thoughts included climate differences. As Indiana weather much like your weather has snow and cold but a full week of snow does not really get down south where these chicks came from.
I have seen this many many times but it only lasted a very short time then they straightened up. IF and this is a big IF it is a hereditary thing then I would be more concerned. I don't think this is something I would want to promote.??????? Oh yes, when I used to get them from the hybrids I was always happy.

Good luck in your venture and I hope that it stops and never kicks up again. So far I think you are the only one having this problem or at least the only one saying anything.

When you have livestock you never get a "day off". We will feed all the cattle, sheep, chickens, and lgd's before we eat even on Christmas morning. And new lambs and calves will be cared for before our second cup of coffee. But when you have a passion for it it isn't work. ;-)

I envy you and that life style and wish I could do that. I did do that for a few years and really enjoyed it. So as far as I am concerned you have the good life.

You sound so much like me in that I always have a lot of farm work to do all the time. Other half is after me to cut down, not increase or better yet get ride of all of them. That would allow us to go on a vacation where it is warm. Every time that subject comes up, I usually add more to the flock or the cattle herd. For me it is great now that I am somewhat retired...only have the farm work to do and not keep 2 or 3 other jobs going on top of the farm. Do love the life style. I laugh every time one of my friends complain about their sub-division rules. Well don't live in one and move out where you free choice of what you want to do to your place.

I had a chance to meet Steven (scribble) . He is great down to earth guy. I am thankful and lucky enough to be able to get a few reds from him. And also to see his birds and hear some of his knowledge about them.

That is just how I feel about my job Rob. So many people over the years have said, Geez, I don't know how you do it. Well, when I decided to take care of folks in my home, I knew what was involved and I wanted to do it hands on. I didn't plan on having someone else do it for me. I guess this is what dedication means. lol
I have no desire to run all over the world doing anything. Enjoyment to me is sitting outside watching the reds acting simple and when I lived on the farm, oh my, when the calves, lambs, colts etc were born and took off running and kicking up their heels, now that is the real life. ha,ha,ha. Didn't hear much about folks saying, I just couldn't sleep last night.
