Welcome. I can see you're from New Zealand. I am unfamiliar with what would be available as far as true bred Rhode Island Reds there. That will take some digging on your part to see if they are being kept and bred and to what Standard.

Yes, we can see from your photos just fine. What you have we would not consider bred to Standard. They look healthy and look to be doing well for you.

Hello everyone.
Been a while since I have logged in. I have been very ill since around Thanksgiving. My boy has made sure that the birds have been fed and watered.
I hope to get back going soon, but most likely won't be doing any thing but maintaining my flock for a while. No big plans for large hatches.
I need to spend a few hours catching up on the thread, it sure looks as though it has been active. Hope all is well with y'all and your birds.

Ron

Hope your felling well. Been sick myself. Took me around 3 weeks to over come it. Still only at 95%. lol

The cold weather hasn't slowed mine down at all... Some of my others quit laying when we had single digit temps and below, but not the Reds.

Are Reds cold hardy? It's a fair question.

With minimal 11 hours lighting scheme, the nest boxes were full of eggs today. Oh, did I mention it was −21F, yes, minus 21 this morning?

Not quite that cold here yet, but my fogle hens are not getting extra light and they are laying nicely.
I now have 8 chicks that I have hatched out from my 2 fogle hens. The first one hatched just after the new year and is acting a lot like the pictures of the departed hollywood. I'm thinking it is a rooster.

This question has probably been asked and answered but I'll ask again, I have three pullets that have started laying, do I save the eggs and put them in the incubator or do I put them in the incubator asap so the eggs won't get old and become infertile? And how do I incubate them properly if the eggs are put in in different days? If there is a link for this would someone kindly point me to it?
