The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

OK guess I am a little slow on this system.

I get this note about Ovation but what the heck it is and why?

Just someone read it? Someone made a comment back? Or what?

Love this site but dang it can be confusing and complicated at times.

If someone could send me a PVT of explanation that would be great!

If you look at the bottom of the posts, there is a thumbs up. If you like someone's post or think it is particularly useful, you can click on that and it gives them an Ovation. You can leave a comment that goes to the poster if you want, but sometimes people give an Ovation without saying why they like you post.

Are you putting the ivomec on them or giving it to them by mouth? My wildlife rehab friend "doctors" the wild birds by putting it on them. Just curious. I fight the nasty little things too think you have them under control and bam there they are again.

The Ivomec is either pour on, you put it on their skin, or injectable. Not oral. When using the pour on, best place is under the wing, in their armpit, no feathers there and it tends to run into their armpit instead of running off.

I hear you on the having to do the dusting thing. I run at least 100 breeders and usually more like 175. Doing the 3-5 drops works or dusting and then coming back and dust again in 7 days but again, it is that pain that you have to catch every birds on the place in one day.

When treating large amounts of birds with that best to do everyone on the same day. I would suggest doing in via water. Pull their water in the AM or the night before. Give it back to them in the PM that way they all will want to drink and you know that all of them have been treated.

Just a suggestion...I am sure there are others who have more suggestions.

What are you putting in the water that treats mites, and how much per gallon? I didn't know of anything you could put in the water that treats mites.

Injectable can be given in the water but that type is better for worms. Pour on is better for mites and lice.

Ivomec is not effective in a lot of places now because it has been used too much. Frontline or advantage for Dogs is being used by a lot of people. Do not use Advantage II, just plain old Fiponil.

Use 2 or 3 drops on the skin for Bantams and 3 to 5 for Large fowl.

Verify the amount. The Chcken Doctor has instructions.

Injectable or pour on Ivermek is at any feed store or should be. You have to ask for it because it is in the cattle area of most feed stores under lock and key or at least around here it is.

Remember this is only one way to deal with them. There are several good ways this one just has worked for me in the past.
