The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I love pictures of older farms and their chicken houses. Sometime I think I was born in the wrong era. 1900-1940 the chicken population and breeds were going gang busters.

Jimmy do you have any RC reds?
I still have my original RC's that I hatched from eggs a few years back. They are on my web site. I hatched just a few of them a couple of years ago but only a few. I just got to the place where I was working so much with the Reese birds that I had pretty much given up on my other lines. Year before last, the winter about did me in and that is why I haven't been doing much hatching. I may try and hatch a handful of the RC and see what happens. Last spring I was having a bit of a fertility problem so I had given up with them.

My RC seemed to be larger then most that I see. They are the Underwood's. Very nice birds and good layers. I had many compliments from some of the judges that seen them on my site etc. I've never shown any of my birds. I showed horses for 30 years plus and I just will never get into the show scene again with anything. lol

Matt I to thank you for your reply on this matter about Bob and what line that he did have and did work with and yes i did know that he had reese and underwood lines I was just curious if he had worked with any others as my other bird came from north Alabama.Could you tell me anything at all about the Dutch Durham line of RIRs i already know that they do not look like the reese lines anything on this matter i would be greatly thankful for as the only thing do far i can find out is this line must have come from england and europe but the main lineage of eben the Dutch Durham came from Province Rhode Islandand duh ok that is whete the bird of RIRs came from in the beginning was Rhode Island but as i daid pass the english strain of dutch durham this is all i can find so i guess the man that my local breeder purshased his from must have order his line of RIRs from out of the COUNTRY.any info i would be thankful
Loud Hen, I am sorry but I have never heard of the Dutch Durham line of RIR's. I am also a little distressed as to why anyone would get birds from England when there has always been strong lines of pure bred RIR's in the US.

Hello matt i dont uderstand the reason someone would get RIRs from out of the country myself as for getting the birds i was only helping an older gentleman as he is getting up in age now s i took some juvenile birds to help thin his flock they were gave to me as for the line of dutch durham RIRs this is what the older gentleman told me the line of the RIRs were. jimmy posted to me a picture of this line of RIRs and the internet link on the birds it very little heard of but there is dutch durham RIR chickens I had never heard of these birds myself until I visited a local breeder home and actully saw this line of RIR but I thank you for giving insight to the fact that Bob did not work with this line of birds *Marilyn*

To me it sounds like you are looking for a line name that fits your bird's description. I'm almost sure if you post updated pictures some of the long term breeders could help you. My memory is not at its best right now but I think I already said yours did not look like mine which are descendents of the Fogle line. And for some reason I just can't remember where the Fogle line came from at the moment but it is a great US line.
I guess I could see an person in England wanting RIR and getting them from the US then a few human generations down that persons grandchild falls in love with a US person and moves to the US. There is a chance that they would bring their now English birds over. But the odds are so slim.

yeah the olds are slim but it did happen with this one eldly gentleman alotted home steading land for farming upon coming into the USA as I have already stated jimmy helped me out last night with the link up site and pictures i tried to post pictures my phone wouldn't do it memory too ful.they may not be US fowl lineage but i feel lucky to have sat and talked with this older gentleman about his fowl and the fact he has been breeding RIRs his entire life but it was just his preference to order eggs and hatch them hiself when he need a little new blood as he said from the same dutch lines overseasgoing
