I don't name any of my reds. The only reason why Bob got his name is because of Bob Blosl talking to me and Matt the day that he died. The bird in the avatar is the bird pictured on my home page standing on one leg when he was young. I only have numbers for them that match leg bands. I call them a lot of different names but not by their own name. Not meaning to sound rotten with this. I call them big boy or my ole buddy etc. lol I've never had a reason to call them anything bad. So far my reds have all been pure gentlemen.

All I can say is it is a good thing that we are not any closer together because no one would be able to get the smiles off our faces. Some of the things that we would be talking about would have us rolling on the ground in laughter. Folks would say that we were up to no good. lol I know to well that there are breeds that would not exist if we didn't do certain things and that is why I don't have them. lol I've done an awful lot of things with the folks that I've taken care of for over 40 years but I surely did not enjoy it. I sure wouldn't want to have to do it with any of my animals. I guess I am just to old fashioned or to much of an old hick or hillbilly whatever folks want to call me. ha,ha I could just hear my neighbors now if I would be sitting down by my coop on a bucket with a chicken turned upside down between my legs and I was there plucking feathers from around the vent area. The cops would probably show up and arrest me for chicken abuse. lol

Thank God for the RIR's and so many others that I don't have to do this with. If I was to butcher one or eat eggs from one that had it's butt plucked or not plucked I think the meat and eggs would be just as good so I'll stick with the ones that I don't have to do that with. Oh my gosh Matt, I'm getting off this subject. I'm getting to crazy.

I'm so happy that I've given you all a good laugh. Friends tell me that I have a wonderful sense of humor and I just love chatting with you folks on here. Serious or silly I still enjoy you all.

I understand...if I didn't show poultry and these lines and breeds were not so rare I wouldn't even consider plucking them but under the circumstances we do what we have to do. If I was only interested in have them in the backyard and I wanted quality birds I would do the same thing you done and find a breed that doesn't require that extra effort.

I had said I would not name any of the birds but my children got the best of me. My daughter is more of your thinking, she calls all of the mid sized roosters nuggets. A few of our mutt roosters have golden tones in them, those are her gold nuggets.

I have so many roosters this year. Just about everything I hatched came out male. The goats gave me 3 does so I guess that kind of makes up for it.

The last of my RIR eggs are going into lockdown tonight. I'm hoping for girls.

Fingers crossed wishing you a better male to female ration on your last batch. It seems that all my hatches are more on the pullet side. That's fine with me though because I just hate when I have to butcher a bunch. I don't mind the job but I have to do all of it my myself and that is pretty time consuming.

Hey there Matthew, (do I sound like Festus?) LOL

I to fully understand what you and others are saying. Don't you ever think that I am saying anything wrong about this. I sure did a lot more with my horses when I was showing then most folks do that just jump on and go for a trail ride. If I was showing, I'd have that can of stuff that you and I talked about one time sitting all around. ha,ha,ha. But since I don't, I don't need it. Oh my Matt, you could never begin to imagine how many times I think about that and several of the other things we talked about. What a conversation that was. You will always be a pretty good joe in my book.

That is a straight comb. The body and lighter color suggests a hatchery RIR. Some call them production reds.
