The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

My birds didn't start laying until they were around 8 months old around 30 to 36 weeks. Have you felt along their backs? They may be just holding their tails low.

I'm scheduled for the pullets next weigh in and band check tonight. I will give them all a feel and see what I discover. Thanks!

I thought I'd share some picture. Many times pictures say more than words. Also I don't believe any two judges see exactly the same things. A good read, http://bloslspoutlryfarm.tripod.com/id64.html
These pictures are a bit deceiving and not showing the birds at their best. She moved when I snapped her picture, she did get a champion at a show. Sometimes the birds will hold their feathers like they have kind of a roach back but at other times look fine.

My male who was another champion. He cut his comb so now he is in a breeder pen. The picture makes the birds look lighter in color than they really are.

Some males I was keeping.

Here is another picture of my champion girl. These girls are always together. My RIW girl here got a Best of Breed at a show. I know there were no other RIW's at the show but I figure the judges can rate them by what they see.

Some chicks in their grow-out coop and pen.

I'm having chicken right now, an older male I stewed up. Yum Yum. Can't keep them all.

Cue breakfast.

I am looking to start a Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White Heritage flock. Looking for reputable heritage breeders, preferably near me, that I can purchase chicks or young birds from. I live in Central PA. Thank you.

The vast majority of top breeders are not on BYC, as the site more focused toward what it's name represents. Many top breeders aren't even on the internet and some don't even use a computer. This is something most folks don't quite grasp as hard as it seems to believe.

That said, there is a breeder of top Reds in central/eastern Penn. I'll private message you the contact information.

Thank you. I was really just looking for a couple of sources to find Rhode Island Reds/Whites. I have looked on-line and pretty much came to the same conclusion about breeders and computers. :) I figured some people here may have information about heritage breeders in my area.
