Ok... I have read about people finding clutches/nests in the oddest places. I have always been happy to find my eggs where they belong. Or at least I always thought they were where they belong.
Today, I heard a hen singing out under my front windows in the hostas. This evening I asked my mom to get the egg out of the hosta and she didn't find the egg, but she did find a chicken. I asked first if it was alive and she said yes. I went over and took a look-see and it was one of my favorite girls, a faverolle cross, Hawk. SO, I let her be, thinking she was laying an egg there. No biggie, I know now to look in the hostas for eggs. An hour later she is still there, hunkered down, all fluffled out. NOT a egg laying pose. A broody pose. "Oh heck no," I tell her and lift her out of the hosta.
This is what I found.
None of the eggs were hot yet, so she's only just decided to sit on them. Also she's been on the roost at night, and in the yard most the day. I guess she figured it was just the right amount. You wouldn't even have known about this clutch if it weren't for the fact that the hen earlier in the day made it known that she laid one here. There are 22 eggs here. LOL.
