"Or maybe the world is ending and that won't ever happen..." Cam sighed. "I guess I'll leave them a message. Orrrr... I guess I'll have to call them." Bracing herself, she stood up and smoothed down her green dress.Kipp understood what she meant. Chris had sort of believed him, of course having a giant nasty spider bite had certainly helped prove his story. This time the only thing he'd have was the silvery scars on his back to prove anything. But if they weren't talking in person, there was no way they'd believe him.
"Right, but, you've been away for three months. And they've been locked up at home wondering if you're ok. Explaining can wait." He said shrugging and biting his lip. He should take his own advice. "International mail takes a really long time. Like, at least two weeks." he added remembering how long it took to send a letter to his extended family. "Who knows maybe quarantine will be over by then."
Legs shaking, she walked resolutely to the phone and punched in the numbers.
No reply. Because who would answer a call from Russia? In the middle of the night?
I'll leave a message then.
"Mom?" Cam asked. "Mom, this is Cameron. I'm in Russia now, but I'm okay. Nobody kidnapped me. You're never going to believe this, but I just followed Noah into a big portal. I got stuck in this place called Borealis for three months. It took me a while to get back. Me and my friends, you know, from the coffee shop adventure, we had to save the world. Again." She sighed. "But it looks like it didn't happen the way we intended, and it might possibly be ending anyways. We're not allowed to go outside, apparently. Due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Anyways, I just wanted you to know I'm alive, and okay, and that Noah is okay too." She turned away from the phone. "Noah, say hi."
Noah stood on his tiptoes and spoke into the phone. "Hiiiiii!" he said into it.
"Anyways, tell Mrs. Chandra he's okay and call back, please. Bye, mom!" Cam said, hanging up. She deflated.
"Okay?" she asked, not sure if she was talking to Noah or anyone in particular. "I'm going to bed." She trudged upstairs, not sure which room she intended to sleep in, or whether she was going to brush her teeth or eat. Even though she had left Borealis in the middle of the day, she was now too weary to think about eating or wearing pajamas and personal hygiene. She'd bother poor Kevin about it some other time.
Maybe it was the pleasant sleepiness of his home or the shock of arriving home in a great big quarantine or talking to her parents, but she seriously felt like an entire day had passed in the past thirty minutes.
Noah skipped back to Kylan for instruction.
