The Hidden Door-A Role Play (AKA The Most Dangerous Coffee Shop II)

Kyle peered up at the face of the person who Colby was dragging along behind him, despite their extreme height contrast. The girl had catty eyes that looked remarkably like bruises and apricot colored lips that clashed horribly with the black eyes. And the eye makeup itself made her green eyes very prominent. Why in the world would you want all three secondary colors on your face at once? But none of this was as bad as the cheaply dyed whitey hair with orangey brown roots poking through.
Kyle tried not to judge, and instead of straining his neck, stared at her kneecap. It was hard not to notice that while Colby had on a cozy sweatshirt, this girl decided to show all the world her suntanned legs.
“Nat!” Kyle exclaimed. That’s Colby’s friend. Kyle hadn’t expected the fox’s friend to be of the female species. He tended to exclaim everything due to his vocal cord deficiencies. “Nice to meet you! I’m Kyle Beck.” And I’ll try to actually remember your name for once.
Rylie blinked down at the girl from his tree branch with his golden eyes, and Kyle realized why his introduction seemed incomplete. Usually, he had his trusty sidekick with him.
“Rylie! Come here!” He lifted a treat out of his one of his enormous pockets. Rylie leapt from the branch, though still eyeing the dogs-who had certainly not ceased to exist- warily.
Rylie snaked along Nat’s leg after one sniff, curling his tail around her ankle before coming to Rylie’s side and gulping down the cat treat.
“That’s Rylie,” Kyle explained. “That means he likes you.” It was not common for Rylie flaunt his trust so openly. In fact, the last time he had rubbed someone’s leg at their first meeting was five months ago, with Annie.
So there was more than met the eye. Rylie tended to display good judgement around new people.
Kyle knew at that moment that there had to be a heart of gold beneath the horrible taste in makeup.
Nat got down on one knee and offered her right hand for the dapper little man to shake, while her left hand immediately got to petting the gorgeous cat. "Hey, Mr. Beck. Hey, Rylie," she greeted warmly, a smile stretching from cheek to cheek. "Colb's told me a lot about you both." She looked Rylie right in the eye, completely solemn. "I'm honored to get your approval, esteemed sir." Remembering that making eye contact with an animal could be taken as a threat, she turned back to Mr. Beck, but didn't stop running her fingers over the magnificent, layered fur. "Where does he like to be pet the most?"

Lilith relaxed, letting her prosthetic hand fall away from her dagger. "Thank you." She murmured, glancing between the other powered people as she reached down to pet Tru.

Kylan smiled. "See? We're good now, no fight means no one gets hurt." He said to Aella, before glancing at Lilith and Kevin. He was already deducing that he liked Ciro for being so quick to try and break up the fight even though it was apparent that he was pretty freaked out, and Kevin just seemed like a good person.

Kevin gave Lilith a quick nod, before turning his attention back to Aella. Once he was sure they weren’t going to fight, he moved towards one of the trees and sat down, leaning his head against the trunk and closing his eyes. He should’ve been asleep long ago, but instead he was in some strange dimension with strange people and a few of his chickens.
Speaking of chickens.
Kevin opened an eye and made clucking noises, watching as the mama hen followed by her babies ran towards him. “Ostavat'sya,” he commanded, closing his eye. Not that they would listen. They were chickens, after all. Chickens wouldn’t listen to words such as ‘stay’.
But, it was worth a try. Maybe they would sleep, considering their bodies were used to being asleep by now.

Kyle did his best to shake Nat’s hand. Black nail polish was flaking off her fingernails.
Rylie felt flattered by the attention, a purr rumbling in his throat. He turned his head back, revealing his white neck and closing his eyes from the bliss.
”He likes it beneath the chin the most.” Kyle explained. Kyle didn't get that spot often because it was rather hard for him to reach. Rylie’s purr increased in volume, almost as though he was agreeing with the man.

Aella's eyes narrowed even more, taking another step closer. But it wasn't worth it. These people had powers, too, and this wasn't New York City. She didn't know it like the back of her hand, so she couldn't just toss flames and run.
She stepped back, flames vanishing. "You're lucky, little brat. Stay away from me."

Aella narrowed her eyes, glancing warily at everybody around her. "Right," she muttered, backing up.

“Uh, yeah, I think so.” Kevin replied.
Kevin watched as Ciro joined, noticing the tears in his eyes and expecting the kid to start crying. But instead, he remained calm and actually seemed good at de-escalating the situation.
Impressive. Kevin thought. He liked that kid already.
He didn’t move out from between Aella and Juliana, but he lowered his hands. He didn’t trust the so-called peace, and he felt like the tension between everyone could be cut with scissors.
“So... are we good?” He asked cautiously, looking around. “No ones going to hurt each other?”

Kylan smiled. "See? We're good now, no fight means no one gets hurt." He said to Aella, before glancing at Lilith and Kevin. Ciro watched the two offenders drift away from each other and nodded with satisfaction once the air's tension seemed to have all but dissipated. "Thank you," he said gratefully, not directed at anyone in particular. "Now how about some introductions?" He rubbed the back of his neck, his grin bashful now. "I'm still Ciro."

Nat happily obliged and had her fingers travel down from Rylie's back to his chin. She started with gentle stroking, then advanced to bolder scratching, still being careful not to poke him too hard. "Man, I wish I had an awesome cat like you," she breathed, awed. She thought about that for a moment. "Actually, I'd be happy with any cat."

Lilith watched as he sat down a short ways away, before turning away, only to immediately be bombarded by Kylan. "So uh, where've you been? Your mom told us... About your dad. And then you running off. I didn't know you lost your arm, though. I'm sorry."
"Nashville, Tennessee. Didn't know she talked to people anymore." Her reply was curt, trying to make it as obvious as she could to her old friend that she did not, in fact, want to talk about her mother of all people.
She shook her head, blinking. He's just try'na be... Nice. Return the pleasantries. "I... Heard about May. I'm sorry." Great pleasantries. Everyone's dead. Get over it, Lili. "Um, how's your parents? And Torin?"
She noticed Kylan's emotions started turning towards incredible nervousness. "That's why I'm here, actually, Torin came through the portal. I'm looking for him."
Lilith's eyebrows shot up. "You tellin' me the five year old is missing?"
"Um," Kylan glanced at him, haven momentarily forgotten the boy was there. "I'm Kylan, this is my friend Lili."
"It's Lilith."

Kipp's ears perked up at her request. He had some, but not on him it was in his bag. Which, should be around here somewhere, it was under his desk, when the floor fell apart.

"Ah, there it is." He said quickly going over to the scattered contents on the forest floor, and grabbing the small med kit he kept with him at all times. "Here." He said coming back and handing it to her.
"Thanks." Haddie said, dabbing the antibacterial cream onto her ribs.
Colby skipped up to his friends and beamed ecstatically. "How are you guys?" An indignant flurry of motion by their feet attracted his roving gaze. "Oh, Mr. Beck, too! Awesome!"
He whirled around to grab Nat's hands and shoved her forward with surprising strength. "Oh, and this is Nat."
Nat raised a hand with as much nonchalance as she could muster with a burning woman in the vicinity. "Yo."
Haddie gave a thin lipped smile and waved with the hand holding the tube.
Kipp grinned widely, and shrugged. "Good considering the circumstances. The new guys all seem pretty on edge."
Haddie nodded, then let out a small chuckle "Can't blame em. Remember when I got teleported to you guys at Stonehenge? I flipped out and tried to kidnap Rylie." She glanced at the cat, who seemed to be having a fine time being petted. "Sorry bout that."

Aella slunk away from Kevin, Lilith, Ciro and Kylan, keeping her head low. Introductions, introductions...what's in a name? Why do people always ask for your name?
She mulled over this, hovering near the edge of another group. A frizzy redhead treating her wounds, a boy with bird-like features, a dark-skinned girl, a man with three eyes with a yellow eyed woman at his side, and a fox boy with another girl, whom had poorly dyed hair.
And a tiny man with a cat. "Exuse me," not someone with tact for social conversations, Aella butted into the conversations. "Is there somebody here who could tell me what's going on?"

Kyle have her a sympathetic look. ”No pets? Somebody in your family have allergies?” He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. ”I wasn't allowed a cat either. Not for the same reason.” Murdering us in our sleep was on his mother's list of reasons.
Nowadays, Kyle proudly walked into family reunions with a huge fluffy cat at his flank, flaunting his rebellious tendencies.

Lilith watched as he sat down a short ways away, before turning away, only to immediately bombarded by Kylan. "So uh, where've you been? Your mom told us... About your dad. And then you running off. I didn't know you lost your arm, though. I'm sorry."

"It's Lilith."
Wow, this is incomodo...or, uh, awkward. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you both." Unconsciously, Ciro switched hands mid-uncomfortable-neck-scratch. Thing is, that new hand was the one with embedded glass.
With an agonized yelp from the sudden pain's shock, he jumped a good two yards backward, as if he could escape his own hand.
Unable to meet anyone's eyes now, he looked for his grocery bag and let the following guilt swamp him. I really need to vamanos.
