For those of you that have lost bees this year and plan on getting more packages this is a great video from MSU by Dr. Milbrath . It looks like many are losing a lot of bees this year. I've lost more than I can remember or care to admit over the years. This years looking okay, I've only lost a few.

Got close to 60 today . Gave the hive the pollen patty . No suit and no smoke . Gentle bees .

I have both my bees ordered now.

A Minnesota` queen of Italian descent and one Northern California Saskatraz hippy hive.

The cold spell even set back the Georgia bee keepers a couple of weeks. So my shipment of bee's and chicks got shoved back. The USPS couldn't ship chicks or anything live during that little cold spell. Chicks were to be delivered during that order and it was even to cold in Georgia for the bee's to fly get pollen and get properly mated so the apiary put shipping back 2 wks. Even stalled their flo.

Willows will probably be the earliest blooms.

Yes I was thinking willow also . The river bottoms are full of willow and silver maple .

All 3 of my hives died over the wacky New England weather we had this year. I'm going to not buy and either hope for a swarm or start next year

In the more southern region compared to ya'll up there the maple is starting to bloom now. I don't have any willows close to see.
