Got to 68 yesterday and snow flurries this morning . So I did a OA mite treatment on the hives .

Still below zero night temps and teens during the day here. Looks like a warm up finally next week. Can't wait to start queen rearing in another month or more.

I’m going to try bees again this Spring/Summer. Hopefully I can do a better job with mite control and small hive beetles as that is what I think led to the downfall of my hives the year before last. I let my hives sit empty for a year and am hoping that all the cold freezing temperatures we are having will have killed off all the pests.
Is it okay to use the old frames with the new bees when they get here or am I wrong in thinking all the old pests will have been killed off?

Happy Birthday . Bees are bringing in pollen . Silver maple are blooming .

I saw a few wild honey bees with little pollen pants on yesterday. They were so weighed down they were having trouble flying.

Nothing in bloom here so the bees are going to the neighbor's and stealing his chicken feed crumbles.
